The Legend of Korra took place in the 1920s, 70 years after The Last Airbender.

If the third series follows a similar timeskip, that was put the universe in modern times. 70 years later is the 2010s.

I wonder how computer technology has changed the world of bending.

It's always possible that Korra could pass away young (though I don't necessarily like to entertain that notion, since I'm way more attached to Korra than I was Aang).

An Earthbender Avatar living through that world's version of the 60's could be very interesting.

Korra was only 70 years after because Aang died youngerish (freezing makes him 100 years older, but physically he didn't live that long) than most Avatars. Avatars could have lived for 100s of years.

What? The 1990's were 70 years after the 1920's.

Whoops, I was calculating the training age of the Avatar as well. By 2010, s/he would have mastered the elements.

Uh, trying to go off what this guy means, even though he totally wrote it wrong:

Aang died in his 50s and then we start following Korra in her mid to late teens so that's 70 years. Then, um, his post just falls apart but I guess Korra dies and we wait for the next Avatar and they're grown up in the 2010s... or something.

The 1990s is cool, too. Then the Fire Nation Avatar could involve future tech.

Huh? Avatar is not on Earth it was another planet remember? There are no blue people or unobtainium on Earth so we had to go to another planet to get them.

Also that wasn't real it was a movie.

there are 2 avatars. one is a cartoon series. but also, that wasn't a planet, it was a moon. the planet is a gas giant. it's the moon orbiting the planet, that has life on it

I don't really think that many people care what gender they are, though I guess we already had Kioshi so they may go with a male.

Assuming that we'd ever actually be lucky enough to get an Earth-Avatar series (let alone a Fire-Avatar series to finish up the cycle), I'd only really care that one's male and one's female for the sake of balance. Beyond that, I'd be fine with however they went with it.

Since the Avatar's purpose is to bring balance to the world, I suppose you can't very well do that if you're only playing for one team.

I agree with this. For instance, part of what sunk Man of Steel and BvS (and subsequently what made WW a relative gem) for me was the fixation with superheroes dealing with modern issues. I do not give two fucks about how Superman copes with drones and 24-hour news networks - things like that just remind me what a vapid time it is to be alive. Considering how well TLA and LoK handled their time periods, I don't want to see that universe infected with stuff like this.

Drones and 24-hours news are really good things to tackle, though... That definitely is not a big factor for why Superman sucked.

Season two was incredibly weak. Season three was the best season easily. Season four was good but the villain was weaker than season one and three.

Amons my favorite villain from both series but Season threes villain is awesome, only behind Amon and Azula in my book.

Yup, they should just make it in a modern world, but the path of technological growth is different. Like megaman world and megaman battle network kinda deal, where one is world where robotics become so advanced, one is where computation, AI and information become the focus.

We cannot say that battke network world is less advanced because there is no humanoid robot kids running about killing each other or the reverse. It is just different tech trees that got more advanced

The jump from Aang to Korra had realistic technology progress. In comparison to IRL, it's literally just an alternate universe as if the Avatar existed.
