No, you don't need to see Begins to watch TDK.

But you should still watch Begins. It's a far better movie. TDK is much more action-packed, and fast-paced, while Begins is slower and kind of drones on at times, but Begins has much more substance than TDK. Begins is a Batman movie, TDK is a thriller that just happens to have a Batman theme.

I agree that BB isn't a requirement for TDK and it's worth watching, but TDK is the better film. It has an episodic quality to it that makes it feel like several issues of a comic book, and the whole thing is surprisingly faithful to the source material.

Dark Knight Rises is the opposite. It relies heavily on the other movies, isn't faithful at all, and pretty much just sucks.

If you like Batman, watch Batman Begins. It's by far the most batman-ish of the Nolan movies.
