44. Beat a game based on licensed stories/characters
Batman: The Telltale Series (Nintendo Switch)

Wow I picked the wrong system to play this on. Overall its was pretty fine for a Telltale game. Better than Game of Thrones, worse than Tales of the Borderlands. Somewhere in that range. All the same good (and bad) stuff you've come to expect from the series.

BUT the Switch version is a broken mess. There is one glitch, unique to the Switch, were if you fail a QTE, occasionally the game will freeze and delete your entire save file. Not your save file in that episode, mind you. But your save file for the entire game. I found this out with five minutes left to go in the final episode, so I got to start the whole game over again. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

(don't play the Switch version, hint hint)

22. Beat a fighting game

Injustice 2

Pretty solid story with really impressive cinematics. Was loving it until the terrible, terrible endgame.

Instead of building up to Supergirl having to choose between her alliance to her family and her morals (as much of the game implied), it became just a rehash of the last game, where Batman gets literally THREE chapters (while many characters get none or at best half of one) despite being one of the least fun characters to play. It's a story where both of them are so obviously wrong (where Batman's morals are constantly inconsistent, as Robin points out in the first fucking chapter, and where Superman wants to just murder everyone who's ever committed a crime). It doesn't even bother bringing the various skills you've learned between characters in, as the action of everyone else is made out to be unimportant (Superman literally defeats Supergirl offscreen) so that he can come back and be defeated by a couple Batarang tosses.

Christ it's frustrating. I really just wanted so much more from that ending, and it wouldn't have even been hard to pull off given everything else they managed to do, but no, every DC game just has to go all in on fucking Batman and Superman.

23. Beat a sports game

Ringside Hero (Kongregate)

- Fairly simple and easy-to-win boxing/management game on Kongregate. Even though it took me about an hour, maybe two, to finish, I had 10x more fun with it than Punch Club. Just trying to fill some of the harder categories while called in to work on my day off.

Anyone got any good browser-based F2P games that are also beatable? =P

EDIT: And I've been planning on this for a bit...

25% Ranking!

TOP-TIER - High-ranking among all games played
1. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd

EXCELLENT - Wonderful games that left an impression and want for more of their magic
2. Evoland II
3. The Witness
4. Armello

GREAT - There was a lot to enjoy despite some flaws or rough patches
5. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
6. X-Men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse
7. [PROTOTYPE]

GOOD - A satisfying experience, but not as fulfilling as expected
8. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux
9. Beyond Good & Evil
10. Owlboy

LIST FILLER - Either too repetitive, janky, short, or basic to be called a good game
11. Little Alchemy 2
12. Hot Tin Roof: The Cat That Wore a Fedora
13. Ringside Hero

It's ultimately up to you, but I'd say it could be as simple as completing one full game. If you choose a lot of turns those can take a few hours, after all, which is a comparable length to a lot of other games. Another idea could be beating each map but that sounds incredibly tedious.

I would've probably gone with completing every map once (which I wouldn't really consider too tedious)

Like originally I counted myself having beaten Overwatch once I got the trophy for winning once on every map

I'm pretty sure that all the N64 and GC Mario Party games have a story mode except maybe 2. If you are talking about a Wii U or 3DS one, I would have no idea.

38. Beat a game you'd dropped or had a long hold on

Darkest Dungeon

Somehow managed to put over 100 hours into this game without ever actually beating it. Some of that was in early access when it didn't have an ending, but still. Glad to finally beat it. Probably won't be the last time, because I still absolutely love it, and need to try a runthrough with the DLC.

37. Beat a game that's been in your backlog for a long time

Donkey Kong 64

I've owned this game since release day, and after restarting it so many times for various reason, I finally sat down and completed the game from start to finish. Really just an incredible game, DK64 really is the golden standard for "Difficult but doable" in gaming. Although I loved the hell out of this game, I would be happy to never play beaver bother ever again

Pokemon Uranium

This is a fangame, but it was really good -- not just "good for a fangame" but I think it holds up really well next to the official games. When I played Pokemon X a couple years ago, it was super meh, and I thought "maybe I'm getting tired of Pokemon as a series" but I enjoyed Uranium way more.

The pokemon designs are kind of a mixed bag. I think they're overall better than Sun/Moon though >_>

I feel like it got the "big stuff" right but everything else slightly wrong.

I really like how open the environments were, and I thought the diversity in the gameplay was great.

I have issues with just about everything else. It's also one of those games that thinks its funny but isn't, which makes it much more annoying than it should be.

12. Beat a game made by a developer you've never tried

Rime - PS4

I'm kinda done with walking simulators, which is essentially what Rime is, although there was a puzzle or two that stalled me pretty good. Even though the "Beautiful indie game thats meaningful" trope has been done to death, this game never really made me feel bored while I was playing it. Even though the puzzles are just silly busy work, the game has an interesting enough variety, and it never lingers on one type of puzzle too long.

Red's topic about beating something that seemed impossible as a kid inspired me to go back to this game that I could never manage to even beat one level of. Luckily we live in age of speedrunning, so I just watched some videos of the best tricks, looked up the techniques, and the game was beat in less than an hour! Now that I'm good at it, I have to say the game is a lot better than I remember!

Geez, it's been two weeks since I beat a game. It's not that I'm not at it, I'm just not... very good at beating games.

Current games over last two weeks:
- Dead Maze (Kongregate)
- Final Fantasy X
- Final Fantasy X-2
- Invisible Inc.
- 100% Orange Juice
- Stardew Valley
- Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends
- Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2
- Dragon Quest Heroes
- GeneForge
- Danganronpa 2

And probably a few others I'm forgetting at this moment. I hope to complete most of them, but I'm very bad at sticking to one thing, lol.

Azure Dreams -GBC

This was always such a daunting and huge game to me as a kid, and it's still remarkably huge! I'm surprised how well this GBC port holds up to a modern lens when its PSX version is almost completely dated and unplayable and its poorly made sequel wasn't playable out of the gate. If anyone is looking for a GBC game to play on their phone, you'd be hard pressed to find a better one than this. I'm surprised that with the thousands of indie roguelikes on the market no one has really emulated this game's awesome style and simplicity.
