As of now I'm enrolled in Spanish 1 this winter, and 2 in spring. I feel like learning Japanese would be a more unique experience, but Spanish would be the more useful as I happen to live in LA.

What do, CE?

The practical answer is to take whatever you learned in high school so it's easier and you can bolster your GPA with a couple of easy As.

Funny you mention this. I earned an A in Spanish 1 back in high school, but I fucked up in the second semester of Spanish 2 and got a D. Now all these years later it's biting me.

All signs are telling me to stick with it, but at the same I want to be ambitious and try something completely different.

The one you actually want to learn. Learning a language you don't care that much about and you will never actually use won't do you any good.

Since you are paying for it, Spanish

But you won't actually learn either unless you live somewhere where people speak it

I go to a community college and get a waiver for my tuition every semester because I've kept my grades up. I only pay for books and other supplies.

I also live in a city in LA county where 60.5% of the people are Latinos. 23.1% are white.

I can't believe I'm going to be the first person in this topic to say this, learn the language you like the most.

Spanish would be more useful and easier to learn. Japanese would be interesting, though.

If you want to move to Hawaii or Japan, take Japanese. If you're going to stay in L.A. or move pretty much anywhere else, take Spanish. I mean seriously, being fluent in Japanese is a requirement in most jobs in Waikiki or Ala Moana. But hey, that's just because we have by far the most hot Asian chicks (per capita) in America :3
