After seeing more of what she said, I can understand why she was upset. But I wouldn't have gone on a campaign to complain about it. I would have called the guy a dick under my breath and forgotten about it as I went on my day.

That sounds like a good way to ensure bad behaviors like demeaning women become institutionalized.

I mean, it's not just women and these kind of behaviors have been going on for a long time. How do we know the guy just wasn't having a good day, maybe he was being rushed, etc. All through the years women in jobs have been jerks to women, jerks to men, men have been jerks to men, etc. So, I mean, it doesn't seem very levelheaded to just apply this to one demographic.

And furthermore, again, just go on with your day. I don't understand how hard it is to be the bigger person and walk off.

You seem confused.

The issue is a combination of professionalism, respect, and a little human decency.

No one said it was a crime of the highest order but you can try to dramatize it all you want.

Don't ask me why I'm not gonna defend some stupid ass who should be walking a dirt lot for work instead of managing a social media account and I won't ask you why you lack the human decency and compassion to say no one deserves to be slighted twice by the same organization only to be mocked by a bunch of losers who are upset because now that girls aren't viewed as property they have no shot of finding a significant other.

was there more to the person calling her honey or was that it?

honey doesn't seem like a bad thing to call someone....it means they are sweet :(

Some people in this topic are going to be obtuse as hell as has already been proven but it can indeed be patronising depending on the context it is used.

Just like "cupcake" or "kid" can be patronising and is often used on this very board purposely to do so.

Except we don't actually know the context, since we don't know what her complaint actually was, what she said to him, what he said in response, or what came before or after the word 'honey.'

So you're being obtuse as hell.

Very few people have 'taken sides,' unless you're going to suggest that anyone who thinks mean things (at best) being said is enough for someone to get a physical response.

Nobody was being 'obtuse' for pointing out that she's far too thin-skinned if being called 'honey' - even in the condescending manner she alleges - makes her physically shudder. However, you seem to disagree, and spent far more words railing against such a travesty of justice than even discussing context (which conveniently misses suggesting that, contextually, she may be completely wrong).

Once again, not once have I said ANYTHING about her in particular. The only thing that I have made a comment on is about whether "honey" could be construed as patronising. And the answer is yes.

Yet you for example tried to make it out as if it couldn't be, and used your own dumb example of some person at a gas station calling you 'hun' to do so, as if it were the same (assuming for a second that her story is correct).

Once again, stop being obtuse.

And I like how you are playing this out as if I think it's some "travesty of justice" or some other bullshit you have to make up in your mind so that you think you're fighting the good fight. All I did was answer the question that was asked.

I have some serious doubts about that. I can only think of two examples when calling someone a pet name like "Honey" or "Sweetie" is not condescending.

- People in relationships together
- You're a 80 year old grandmother talking to a child

Probably because you are culturally ignorant. Go watch some TV set it the north of England or Scotland. Hell, theres a TV show called auf weidersen, pet where the title even pokes fun at geordies' inclination to use terms of endearment. The pr response itself is a clear reference to the fact if you spend any time around that part of the world, you're going to be called something, whether it be honey, pet, lass, man, fella...whatever...

A ton of people talking about how they were called honey once and it was no big deal.

Funny how none of those people say they voiced their displeasured and were met with a mocking response about other pet names.

I use terms of endearment. I use love in normal conversation all the time. When someone says they don't like it i apologize and refrain from continuing to do so. I don't act like a ten year old and double down by calling her other names in return.

Bunch of idiots who say she's being immature and a baby while estentially claiming "I'm selfish and however I choose to address you is how you'll be addressed."

Likely, due to a lack of interaction with women so they presume all women should act like their wifus on online dating sims.

People are tired of being bullied by narcissistic self-identified "victims".

Not everything deserves an apology and these narcissists need to deal with the fact they won't always get what they want. They should look inward where the mental deficiency resides rather than constantly demanding others to behave, apologize, and repent.

Passenger Emily Cole says her perfectly reasonable customer service query was dismissed by a Virgin Trains manager who called her honey. The passenger said the encounter was hideously patronising and made her shudder.
