I always liked that they gave the DMC bosses personality, it makes the fights more personal and more vibrant. I do prefer many others (mainly Griffon, Berial, and Agni/Rudra) but I nominated Phantom since he was the first and plus his track just kicks ass.

Dedede himself is a boring villain. Granted, no Kirby character is actually any good anyway. They're all supposed to be "fun" and when your supposed villain is "fun"... it makes him below average.

Back to characters I don't know, and even worse considering the game seems to have multiple people being him, hence not getting a picture this time. The song has this rating for two reasons... of many classical songs... I never did like most of Beethoven's things. The songs are easily learned because of muscle memory since like... 80% of the right hand is literally the same thing, and the left hand is just varying dynamics. It has cool moments... but it's a boring song when looked at musically. Next... we literally have a game using a classical song as a character theme. It's... even more boring to me.

Honestly... listening to this song during this write-up makes me think I had listened to it at a wrong time. I clearly was not in the mood for a rock song and got it. This was my write-up previously: "It just stretches on way too long and is only the instrument side of a rock band song... there's no real change in its way of doing the melody. Like sure, it has two different sections, but you're listening to... a guitar, a bass, and drums... it's nothing special." At the current time, I actually like one of the melodies and the other is okay. Sadly, not changing my rankings... even though this could have risen (sorry). Song link has the character in it, so I think I don't have to care about getting one for this character.

I tried my hardest to not be biased, leaving his character rating as the simple "I don't know the character" rating you see quite often and all over the place... but the song suffered from it anyway. First, I was just listening and it reminded me of Mog's Theme from FFVI, and then began my hissy fit about how unoriginal that is and blah blah grumpy about SMFFFC from the previous year... so I never recovered during the rest of the song. It left me with discomfort... so at 5 it goes.

It sits there in a "I'm a bad boy" kind of theme like that's the only thing that's necessary. And sure, it fits the scheme... but it makes for a boring melody if that's all its meant to convey. Sure, fighting game song so it makes sense that it's a bit one-dimensional, but... not in my taste.

Wait... Did I only JUST notice that it's actually the theme to all of the Battle Frontier and thus shouldn't have been eligible here? LOL WHOOPS... Still doing it for Palmer alone, he's in the thumbnail afterall. Actually, wish I realized who he was too... would have bumped him down for raising one of the worst characters in Pokemon. Oh yeah, the song itself is really stupid compared to most Pokemon songs. It's wild and all over the place, and doesn't have any sort of meaning to anything it's doing. It has these catchy moments, and definitely has the feel of a Pokemon battle theme... but outside of that, it's a song I'd turn off and just do the battles.

Honestly, this can be wrapped up as simply welcome back to the comments of me disliking vocals in video game music typically. It's okay, but ultimately not having the Disgaea experience limits this song from moving highly. This is definitely my favorite song within the 5s, and ends up only lower than characters I know and don't dislike, who will take up the next few rankings... but here we close out on bottom 20. Oh, I want to say this, knowing what Laharl is like makes this song fit very well, but... as said, I'm limited on it hitting any sort of nostalgia, which could have bumped it. Maybe someday.

As the original opening to Final Fantasy VI, as you started the game... it was lovely. But it lasts that intro cutscene in length while you're immersing yourself into a new game. When outside of it... it doesn't hold the same kind of nostalgic feel that some songs can have. It's fairly boring, as it plays the little flute melody for a while, then just has a rising tune that doesn't... do much. Yup, boring, just like the character it represents. Considering I literally argued that a show sucks because the main heroine is too much like Terra, I think you can realize just how I feel about her. She's not a bad character, just a bad lead, and not worth that much screentime since she's bland.

While it does go with everything... only the first minute and a half end up being listen-able. After it stops with the main melodies... it just... turns ridiculously dull and drops all great impact of the song. This song ends up here because simply... it's a song with two problems. Sound system limitations, and a giant boring chunk of the song. It's pretty great if it ended after the main melody, but it didn't. Now with my new highest rating for a character, we reach a bit more out of what's normally said. I never have played a Street Fighter, 7 is simply my go to score for "ya know, I don't know the character fully, but I know I like 'em." In this case, I just love how they tend to represent America in random video games, they'll typically be in the military and blond. And shit, Guile has tattoos of American Flags on his arms. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY BE MORE AMERICAN! Ahaha~ I'd love to play him just once, not likely to be my main but it'd be fun.

#78. Lance's Champion Theme

To start on the song... Yeah, far from the worst Pokemon battle song and honestly it's probably my second favorite Champion theme. But it's only average past that, it has a really excellent beginning to it but then is just normal for the rest, kind of the perfect explanation to the first time you see that Lance has risen to champion. Originally the last member of the Elite 4, he rose after Red decided to leave the position and Blue didn't accept to return, believing himself to be inferior. So it's just like "whoa it's you" then the battle goes. It doesn't have some of the glory some of the other Pokemon songs have, though. Some normal battle themes are just better than his theme.

Character rating may seem low, and Scar would understand if we got that far when we ranked Pokemon gym leaders/E4 and stuff, but we didn't as I saw it really wasn't a subject for him and I... Pokemon Lore is kind of interesting. Not the Pokedex entries, but like everything you can grasp from characters. Gym Leaders are type specific, and Elite 4 are a step above... I don't remember where, but I remember one thing told us that Elite 4 are supposed to be Type Masters. Basically Pokemon Masters of each type, while the Champion is meant to be a Pokemon Master. Where am I going with this? Lance is a master of Dragonites. All kidding aside, he's Dragon/Flying. Uses other Flying types to cover the weaknesses of his Dragons. This fact is why he was easily defeated twice in a row by rookie trainers who got stronger rivaling each other... He's far from the worst Champion, I like him more than two others, but... I don't like him as a Champion. I get why he's there, just don't agree with the spot. Sorry for long and weird write-up... but I wanted the full thing out there.

Listening to the song the first time, I was working on another task and suddenly heard another song pop up, which instantly made me rate this a 6 since I basically forgot it existed in the background. Listening to it this time, I think it deserves this 6 rating. It's kind of a cool song, but doesn't do that much to the melody. It plays the same melody for like the entire second half... not that interesting of a song, but it's not bad either. Perfectly represents average.

It's average.
