We like Disney on this board, right?

We like Tangled on this board, right? Rapunzel JUST won the Save My Disney Character contest, so it's safe to say that yes indeed, we like Tangled on this board.

And yet... there is a distinct lack of awareness for Tangled: The Series. Cassandra, the most prominent character introduced on that show, has been hard-booted from Save My Disney Character AND she's just been snubbed from Best New Character of 2017. 64 spots, and she couldn't even get one.

So we need to talk.

Tangled: The Series takes place after the movie and continues Rapunzel's adventures in Corona. All of Rapunzel's friends, including Eugene, Maximus, and Pascal, are along for the ride, and there are tons of great new characters introduced, including Eugene's old thief buddy Lance Strongbow, the strange but adorable scientist kid Varian, and of course, Rapunzel's best friend and lady-in-waiting, Cassandra. She's a little bit bitchy (especially to Eugene), but she's also a complete badass and might have a little bit of a lesbian crush on Rapunzel.

It's animated in a beautiful 2-D style, it has great voice acting. ALL of the cast of the original film, including Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, reprise their roles, and it has a great supporting cast, including Eden Espinosa as Cassandra, Clancy Brown as the King of Corona, Julie Bowen as the Queen, and a good chunk of the Supergirl cast is involved, including Jeremy Jordan as Varian and Laura Benanti as Lady Caine. Also, freaking Mike Ehrmentraut (Jonathan Banks) is in this thing as Varian's dad! Freaking Mike!

Just to make it absolutely clear that there are no excuses for not watching this show, Disney has officially uploaded the first episode of the animated series to Youtube for free.

Technically there IS a one hour movie called Before Ever After that takes place before this, which explains among other things how Rapunzel got her hair back, but you can watch the series without having seen the movie.

It's my favorite new show of 2017, full stop. Not just favorite animated show, favorite show period. It's one of my 20 favorite television shows of all time. It's absolutely brilliant, surprisingly dark at times, and anyone here who claims to be a Disney fan should be watching it.

There are these weird rocks that showed up mysteriously in Corona, when Rapunzel touched one it magically restored her hair. She can't heal people with it anymore, but it's gained a lot of tensile strength, even more than it had before (it can't be cut even by Cassandra swinging a ton of weapons at it at full strength).

We're supposed to find out more about the rocks (FINALLY) in the season finale episodes, which will air over MLK weekend.

Disinterest is a good excuse.

That's weird, but thank you.

I dunno man. Personally I just don't like the idea of retconning the end of the movie because it seems like a marketing ploy. Like if Disney decided to make The Series canon before the inevitable Tangled Too or whatever I might consider watching it because I would feel lost otherwise.

But on its own the motivation is just not there. It's not just Tangled I swear. I lack the motivation to watch a lot of series inspired by movies. Like I'm not doing Big Hero 6 either, and I've fallen behind on How To Train Your Dragon instalments since they moved to Netflix, and I LOVE that series and I've had Netflix for a year!

Well technically they already did Tangled Ever After where Rapunzel and Eugene get married (and Rapunzel's hair is short again), so this takes place before that, it's not really retconning anything, it's just showing some of their adventures during the years before the wedding.

You're not watching Big Hero 6 either? But that's going to be amazing!
