Huh, not surprised since it's Nintendo. No idea when or if I will be interested enough to pick one up. I'll probably "have" to for the next Pokemon game so hopefully there's more on it I care about by then

I really liked Awakening. I played Birthright and some of Conquest. I actually got all 3 versions of Fates and only finished 1 whoops >_>

Mario, Zelda, and Xenoblade all in one year makes this the absolute best launch year of all time for me, easy. In fact I have an incredibly difficult time imaging anyway for it to be beaten, especially considering Mario and Zelda were in tip top form to boot.

Not only that but it's a home and portable console in one, with multiplayer capability in both forms straight out of the box. I'd go so far as to say it's the best console concept in history; it feels like they took all the best parts of the concepts of their last few consoles and mashed them together, but in a cohesive way.

They should always launch with a Mario and/or Zelda with the other close after. I mean it's guaranteed money for them since those are their two console series people go nuts over worldwide.

I'm honestly surprised it beat the Wii, because that thing reached out to a ton of non-gamers.

Not mad though, it clearly has better games at this point.

You continue to support your platform by releasing roughly one Nintendo game a month. You don't need to make games better than Zelda or Mario.

I think Nintendo went as far as to say system, not just home console.

Anyway for 2018 Bayonetta and Fire Emblem will be huge critical hits and Pokmon and Animal Crossing could be huge commercial hits if they make it out this year. They could easily continue their hot streak with the same highs.

Pokemon can be a November/December release, they probably started working on it right after Sun and Moon, as they said that only a small part of the stuff actually worked on USUM
We will probably know next month, if it's not announced by the end of February, then it's 2019 for sure

I do wonder about two games though-
First, are they going to port Smash or make a new one?
It took two years between 64 and Melee, 7 between Melee and Brawl, 6 between Brawl and 3DS/U, and now we are 3 years after it
The Switch has a promising future, they can announce a new Smash next year and then release it two years from now, but isn't it also good to port the Wii U Smash? and include all the DLC characters from the start? it will be huge

Same question about Mario Kart. Are they going to break the "One game per console" rule?

This is rather strange given the fact it hasn't translated into a better ownership on GameFAQs than the Wii at this point in their respective life cycles. The Switch has 45.04% ownership on GameFAQs after being on the market for nearly 9 months. At the 9 month mark for the Wii, the ownership was around 51% on GameFAQs. And that's with the Wii having far worse supply issues than the Switch. The Wii suffered from extreme shortages for about 2 years.

I suspect it's a lot harder for people on this site to get hyped for future game systems now that most of us are much older. I guess it was a lot easier for us to get hyped for a new system when we were much younger. Back in 2006 when the Wii came out, almost 40% of the site was still under the age of 18 (at an age where you could talk your parents into getting a new system). Although the Switch is more expensive than the Wii (only $50 more), I don't see making such a huge difference in its performance relative to the Wii. Switch games are also $10 more than Wii games.

That process is kind of a hassle. More so taking them out. You really have to press those release buttons while pulling.

It really put Nintendo back in the public consciousness and capitalized on people who were kids during the N64 era ( and really fans of all ages) into getting back into Nintendo

It didn't launch with a notable game and the marketing was awful. By the time the system started to see a more consistent release schedule, the writing was on the wall. I don't think third party support has moved the needle for the Switch so far, either. It's nice that it has Skyrim and Doom, and those games did well, but in year 1 the Switch is selling because of 1) Zelda 2) marketing and 3) Mario.
