I wouldn't say the performances have declined, but I will admit the organization leaders are becoming pretty obnoxious and protective of what is and isn't acceptable.

I think this AGDQ has the least interesting schedule out of all GDQ's that I've seen.

I certainly attribute some of that to people figuring out that the Prevent Cancer Foundation is a pretty shady organization. I usually donate all of my money during the summer and none of it during the winter for these events.

Also I know why it's scheduled the way it is but having it the week after most people go back to work certainly doesn't help.

Is there no Mega Man X race at this? That's like the only thing I cared about at this point. And I don't see Super Metroid either. Doesn't that usually bring in a lot of donations?

Yeah, I'm surprised there's no Super Metroid scheduled here, if for no other reason than how much money kill/save the animals always earns.

I understand where you're coming from but even the worst game (and sometimes especially bad games) can be really entertaining if the runner is fun to watch. I don't often get a chance to catch much of it live but will usually work through most of the archive later and you can find some real gems.

hollow knight was very good and I don't even really like the game

some other things I'm looking forward to:

waveland - fast paced 2D platformer with extremely smooth movement

SA2B - I dunno why but I always find runs of this fun to watch. Probably the variety in levels and the 3 playable characters which constantly alternate

metroid prime 3 - because I'm curious how broken (or not broken) it is compared to other prime games

mario sunshine - game flows really well, if you like mario 64 runs you'll probably like these too

umihara kawase - because I can barely even figure out how to play this game properly in the first place

I wanna run the marathon - IWBTG fangame (which means lots of precise platforming) with a ton of cool gimmicks

warcraft 3 - because RTS campaign speedruns often use very amusing strategies

LoZ 100% race - lots of nostalgia for this game, if I ran a mainstream game it would probably be this

LttP randomizer race - there was a big tournament for this recently and I realized it's super fun to watch if commentary is good

What are you guys looking forward to?

Having seen the guy's practice runs, I don't think it'll end up being that bad. He manipulates a lot of the RNG from what I saw, so Seth shouldn't be completely bad. Then Cormag and Vanessa come into play.

Anyway, I don't know, this GDQ just feels...off. Like, the technical difficulties are one thing, but it feels like there's way less hype in the crowd. Is it just because it's not as big as SGDQ at this point?

Yeah its kinda sad, the event used to be super fun, now it's just a money making machine with no spirit and full of sjw drama...

At least some of the runs are still entertaining, but it died for me when they banned bonesaw

I can't bring myself to care about GDQs anymore. There seems to be so much less personality from the runners these days. It's usually just a runner and a commentator or two quietly making obvious statements about the game they're playing like they're really nervous about being in front of such a large audience (though admittedly this could easily be the fault of the GDQ staff and their endless cavalcade of "no fun" rules and the runners not wanting rock the boat and risk getting kicked out or something).

And the tech issues and set up times have gotten worse and worse when they should be getting better and better seeing as this event draws in so much money now and the people running it actually get paid to do it. This isn't just a bunch of nerds in some dude's basement anymore, this is a legitimately registered LLC.

Then there's the drama. Always with the drama.

Didn't someone said like, during SGDQ or last year's AGDQ that this was mostly because they refuse to get an actual good tech team and still use that in house one they have because "they were there from the start" or some shit, and they still manage to fuck it up every single time?

I mean there's no super metroid, and only a megaman x speedrun but i'm sure there's fun stuff in there which i wouldn't mind checking the VOD's for, doesn't mean that the event itself isn't shit now.

There is a couple games that I want to see, but I'll catch them on Youtube since they take place when I work. I do think the event has gone downhill compared to what it used to be though. I used to be really excited for them, but the last year and a half I haven't because the runs haven't been as much fun. It seems like the runners don't have much freedom to express themselves. Once it started going downhill is when I stopped donating. I also thought it was rather strange there was no Save / Kill The Animals since that has been in every event I have seen.

I mean, this isn't really normal let's plays people watch.

There were a lot of amazing speed runs with some amazing skills and glitches.

The mega man runs and races were always a blast, super metroid was always interesting cause every year a new path was being used.

The RPG runs, while few and far, were interesting for late night viewing.
