Scientifically wrong: The First Past the Post system makes voting pointless.

If you don't like the current representative electoral college, vote for someone that agrees with your opinion. If enough people agree and that person makes it their platform issue they could make it more known and a more popular party/candidate may take it up if enough people care.

Do you really think that "The Rent is Too Damn High" person thought they would be elected president? No, they just wanted their platform out there. It failed because not enough people that would benefit from his platform actually vote and there are already rent programs to help people in the US.

While I've often suggested that Oprah could win the presidency, now that Trump is in office that seems a bit less likely unless the same crowd which complains on a daily basis about Trump being unready for the job would turn around and appoint something who also held no prior office. I'm not even sure her background is even on par with Trump's since at least he was in real estate which involves dealing with government bureaucracy on a near-daily basis. She's strictly entertainment.

Why wait?

She gave a speech about alleged victims speaking out and people are reading into it as a candidacy speech. However, it's hard to believe that Oprah would give up so much power and influence just to be president =p

So does Trump, so that's kinda hollow.

Scientifically wrong: Uninformed, short-sighted voters make voting pointless. Systems are secondary to that. However, whatever system you have in place, voting is never pointless.

Oprah has no clue how to run a country and would probably just be an establishment puppet.

Would I take her over Trump? Yes, I wouldn't take her over a third party candidate that put their own blood sweat and tears into improving the country for the working class.

IMO Oprah would make a great president. She has exposed herself everyday to knowledge and experts on a countless range of topics. She is a major humanitarian and she has great values. She cares for people genuinely and is eloquent.

She has many experts available to her and knows them across wide backgrounds. She wouldn't have political history to be true to in a new office. She wouldn't need donations from platforms she doesn't agree with.

She's not a stupid person. She's not impulsive. I may not agree with her on all things, but she'd be a great president.

I feel like Oprah would be the perfect counter pick to Trump. 100%. She's an excellent speaker, very highly respected, humanitarian. Infinitely more popular and successful as a TV personality. Plus she's a strong black woman... which is like a boogeyman to the Republicans.

I think the main arguments that could be levied against her is that she is too rich that she'd be unrelatable for voters and that's she's not politician... but against Trump those are kinda non issues. Also she came from a far more relatable background than Trump.

If she can muster up the willingness to go for it I think she'd be a lock. I can't imagine she'd wanna give up her life for one of the most stressful jobs in the world (I don't think she'd be driven by the same attention seeking that drove Trump) but boy would it be amazing to have another person that we could proudly point to as our president.

She probably wouldn't. If "nice person who interacts with people from all walks of lives" made for a great president, Jimmy Carter would be the greatest of them all.

As for intelligence, that's a little hard to verify. I *think* she has either a bachelors or an associates from a state school -- hardly an accomplishment -- and she has a *lot* of people working behind the scenes on her image.

Her speech wasn't a joke, but the issue is what people took from it. Her speech was more generally about sexual abuse allegations and seeking justice, but people chose to read it as a candidacy speech. From the few clips played on NPR, I can understand why people might think it hints at her running but, realistically speaking, I'm not sure I can see that happening.

I'm not sure if she's actually an excellent speaker although she can read a prepared statement as well as anybody else. However, she's absolutely relatable to voters. Not just because she comes from humble beginnings, but because her entertainment empire has endeared her to at least the women of this nation. She's a trusted, household name. Sure, she's fucking loaded, but a lot of people don't see her as a billionaire.

Of course, the real issue is that she's likely even less qualified than Trump to do the job and, given the narratives against Trump, it could burn her as well. Trump broke the system and the system has been trying its damnest to make sure that another private-sector individual can't just walk into the presidency. Therefore a lot of that will likewise hurt Oprah.

Expanding on my earlier post: it'd be amazing to have The Rock discussing something with Trudeau and asking "what do you think?" only to cut him off and yell "it doesn't matter what you think!" before continuing to talk. It'd be pretty appropriate if he also called him a roody-poo candy-ass. It'd be fun if he just stayed in heel character.
