I'm 24 and have been out of home since 20. Today my mum offered to let me come live at home for minimal rent, I also wouldn't have to pay for food or utilities. The room at my parents is a tiny bit smaller than the one I'm living in now and both my mum and stepdad are pretty cool so I wouldn't lose any of my independence. She feels it'd be good for me to get some savings and re-prioritize my life a bit.

I don't know what to do. My current living situation is pretty good except I haven't been able to save and I'm constantly in debt to my housemate around 500 bucks as well as borrowing money off my mum pretty often. I do have a job interview tomorrow that might turn that around but it doesn't change the fact my parents house is 100x better than where I currently live. I would also feel weird leaving my house mate, we've formed a pretty good bond that even though I owe him money, I've always helped him out of jams and we've always been pretty loyal to each other.

Anyone been in the same boat?

Unless you see yourself getting out of those debts and being able to stop borrowing money as much as you currently are....go live back home. It'll be easier for you to save and you start fresh in a better place. That is unless you feel like you can handle things how they are now and are fine with it.

If you move back home...are you actually going to save? Or are you going to end up stuck in the same situation, just under mommy's watchful eye?

Be honest with yourself.

If it were me, I wouldn't move back, but I value my freedom quite a bit and haven't lived with my parents since I was 16.

I have a job interview tomorrow that sounds pretty sure thing but I still think it might be more worth it looking for work around my parents house and saving there for as long as they'll keep me.

Yeah... he has never said anything and I think he's happy to keep the debt as long as it doesn't go past the 500 mark but it's getting to the point where I just feel like a piece of shit about it.

Well the difference between my current house and home is that my house mate and I party close to every weekend and we'll spend a bit. That's the other thing, he'll keep lending me money as long as the debt doesn't get too high, which is something I don't quite know how to take. If I lived at home, my booze, food and other utilities are paid for and I don't even have to worry about these things.

I'd also say my mummy is a pretty amazing woman when it comes to going above and beyond for me. She said the only things she won't have in the house is me smoking weed (I'll do it outside when they're asleep >_>) and having girls in the house when I'm not home, which used to happen a bit when I'd go out for only an hour or so. (usually to buy weed)

I feel like my mind is already made up to go home but like... it's not that bad here. It's just my parents have a 4k TV, air con in the whole house and goddamn chickens to hang out and drink whiskey with. It's tough.

Yeah. My parents have 6 chickens that just roam around the yard all day. I thought they were a pretty shitty pet but they lay an egg every day and are cute as shit running around eating grass.

I'm leaning towards moving home, just for a change of pace and hopefully can turn my life around a little bit. I love being out of home and whatever but the idea of saving money while getting delicious dinners made for me most nights is just too much to pass up. That being said, if I get this job tomorrow, or a job in the next week I'll stay here and pick my life up myself. I love all the nice things at home but I mean as much better as their house is than my current digs, I live with a great friend and we get up to some funny shit that'd never happen at home. I'd hate to think that I couldn't come back and live here when someone else moves in.

I pay 150 AUD at my current house and she would make me pay 125 but put 75 into savings each week. It doesn't matter though, I've decided against it right now. I have 7 weeks before I have to "work for the dole" which is essentially work for welfare. So if I haven't found decent employment by then I'll move home.
