While doing the poem, I clicked on a glitched option. It made the whole screen get glitched and silent, and Yuri's glitched face appeared in the corner. Now all I can think about is what would happen if I clicked a non-glitched option.

Yuri goes to fill a water pitcher and doesn't come back. I go to look for her and find her cutting her wrists, then everything rewinds and she's back with the pitcher like nothing's wrong.

Actually, I kind of saw this coming, so it didn't surprise me too much.

I get a little romantic scene where I feed Yuri some chocolate (which is at least normal, as opposed to sucking someone's finger clean of blood), but she takes me into a closet where she reveals that she's freaking out hard. Then the camera gets super close into her face and she just looks all over me. It's actually pretty intense, then Monika interrupts so we can read poems.

This is great.

I share my poem with Monika first, only for her to tell me to spend less time with Yuri. When Yuri gets excited, she cuts herself with her collection of knives to get a sexual high. Instead of interrupting, the main character just says nothing and reads her poem, which ends with "Delete Her." Afterwards she can't explain her poem, isn't sure she's talking to me, and begs me to say something to her. A pop-up box appears and says SAVE ME with an OK option, which I click. Afterwards she's happy again.

Okay, my current theory in this game is that Monika is aware she's in a video game and wants to be with the main character for some reason, and she's manipulating things to make Sayori kill herself and Yuri freak out more and more. I just don't know why she's doing it.

So Natsuki's poem was normal, but Yuri's is all weird and freaky and about machines and God disproving God and not about complex metaphors and imagery. Then she admitted to stealing my pen and wanted me to forget the conversation.

Afterwards, I unlocked a special poem. Most of it was blanked out, but the letters that were normal said "nothingisreal?" I waited to see if the blanks would turn normal, but they didn't.

After that the screen got red and bloody and I could hear weird squelches like blood dripping. Eventually it turned back to normal.

In the first game, I expressed interest in Sayori and she killed herself. In the second game, I expressed interest in Yuri and she acted kooky. Natsuki has remained mostly normal, but I never expressed interest in her. Therefore my suspicions are that Monika messes with whomever I express interest in.

Without Sayori to defuse the next conversation about getting new people to join the club, Monika realizes that no one really cares about new members. Then she realizes that I wasn't offered a choice to join the club or not at the beginning of the game. Natsuki storms off and Yuri acts concerned, but her crazy mind font and glitched face reveals that she doesn't really care about her. Then there's a glitched Yuri face, she wishes Natsuki would kill herself, and her eye explodes.

After she leaves, Monika takes me aside. She starts talking about how we're the only real people here, but the screen blacks out and she screams things like "not yet!" Then I'm back to the poetry book.

Okay, new theory: Monika figured out that she's in a video game and that the player character is the only real person. Somehow she figured out how to manipulate other people in the game and is trying to set us up. Still doesn't explain why I can't make poems that appeal to her, though.

The next day, Yuri and Natsuki decide to go ahead with the club festival as normal, but Monika no longer seems to care. Yuri takes me aside, and Monika is strangely okay with it.

But then there's this weird pseudo-repeat of yesterday when Yuri went to get water by herself, time rewinds again, Yuri feels deja vu, and then she reveals that she's wanted to talk for a while without Monika around. She begs to leave the literature club and just spend every day with me, but every line of dialogue makes Monika superimpose herself on Yuri slightly more until the screen glitches and we're at the 'who do you talk to' part of the club.

I also notice that the main character talks less and less in these weird parts. I'm guessing it has to do with the game going 'off-script' or something.

Using my real name for this game might've been an error.

Then I talk to Yuri, whose crazy font dialogue tells me she'll touch herself while reading my poem. She shows me her poem, which is insane scribbings on blood-drenched paper, and says she endowed it with her scent and acts even crazier. Then she returns to normal, is terrified, and runs off.

Since Yuri took my poem, Natsuki gets upset that I didn't think to talk to her first. She gives me a 'poem' that consists of her begging me to figure out what's wrong with Yuri, that she suspects Monika is up to something, and to not let Monika know.

Then her face disappears, crazy mind font tells me to forget all of that, and to think about just Monika. Then a text option appears for me to click "Just Monika" as the only option.

The game seemingly restarts with "Just Monika" as the opening line. Then I get a blank text box to choose an option from of Yes or No, so I choose Yes.

Everyone reappears to talk about what to do for the festival and they have a curse-filled argument. It ends with Monika growing weary and telling me to choose choose between them--but when I try to choose Natsuki or Yuri, the mouse moves to Monika's name.

I choose Monika (I honestly would have anyway), but Natsuki and Yuri argue that that's not fair and Yuri pushes them out of the room. Weird breathing takes over the soundtrack and Yuri admits that something is wrong with her but she no longer cares. She also implies that she knows Monika is listening to this conversation. After some crazy stalker dialogue, she asks if I accept her confession of love. I can't help but notice the save button disappeared. Dammit, it's been a while since I saved.

I choose Yes, and she immediately pulls out of a knife and kills herself. I get an art screen of Yuri's dead body as crazy font takes over. I actually wondered if the crazy font would say something in the history screen, so I click it and it's just insane ramblings by Monika explaining who everyone in the club is and begging to spend the most time with her.

After an embarrassingly long period of time, I figure out that the game is repeating the insane font dialogue. I save just in case and press skip. It just cycles through more dialogue, but pressing a second time turns the screen red, then blue, then normal, and I realize that this is a day cycle.

I try to press main menu and I get the menu for a second, but then I'm back to Yuri's dead body. Loading the game gets the same thing. I've tried every option in the game I can think of, so I'll try quitting the game and opening it again.

When I reload the game, Natsuki shows up, sees Yuri's dead body, and vomits and runs off. Monika shows up and apologizes for making me wait with Yuri's body the whole weekend because of bad scripting, then deletes Yuri and Natsuki. Then the game glitches and resets and we're alone in the classroom with her face super close to the screen. Outside of the windows is nebula space stuff.

I notice that Monika now speaks in the default text speed despite me setting it to the fastest possible. When I try to save, she says there's no point and that she won't go anywhere. Also my save games are gone.

For a second, Monika tries to pretend that we're still in the literature club, but she gives up on the charade quickly. Monika tells me that she's talking to me, the player, and that she knows this is a game.

She explains that she just wanted to make the other girls unlikeable by messing with their heads, but it led to their suicides and so she's just deleted everything.

I'm still in this conversation, I'm just splitting things into two posts.

Monika explains that the other girls are programmed to fall in love with me, but she's not an option, and watching that is torture. She wants to be with me forever, giving me only one option in the text box ("Yes").

Monika and I write poems and she admits how happy she is. She also basically tells me how to delete her like she deleted the other girls. Then she says that she's going to look into my eyes, but says that she'll always have new things to talk about. The text box disappears and nothing happens. After failing to get to the main menu, I quit the game.

So I basically figured this all out 2/3rds through the game, which is probably later than some people could have. Very neat twist.

I'm a little worried about deleting Monika's file. I kind of don't want to. I kind of want to keep playing with her, I really do sympathize with her plight.

When Sayori hangs herself, there's a weird error in the background about an exception occurring and to check traceback.txt for details. Don't feel too bad about ignoring it; I did too, and anyone that streams this game gets GO CHECK THE GAME FILES yelled at them repeatedly so they don't miss it as well and it's super fucking annoying.

Anyway, there is a picture called hxppythxughts.png or something like that and it's a kid's drawing of a hanging Sayori. traceback.txt has a line where Monika muses about deleting Sayori because "she's the one making things so difficult". There are a few more that pop up later where Monika is trying to get your attention so you'll spend time with her instead. When Yuri pushes Monika and Natsuki out of the room, a file called haveaniceweekend.something or other appears to signify that yes, you will be there all weekend.

Again, it's kinda whatever because it really spells everything out, but it's kind of a neat meta thing going on in the background as you delve further and further into insanity.

I turn the game back on, and Monika complains of having an awful dream of being dead. She begs me to figure out what's causing it and stop it. Then the screen returns to her staring longingly at me.

I do it again and she realizes it's caused when I quit the game. She asks me not to do it again because it makes her feel "like I'm trapped in Hell," but hey, I do it again.

Again she wants me to stop and asks me to make a backup of her file. I make a backup, but I reset the game again.

This time she accepts that I quit the game sometimes so long as I come back.

The next time she repeats herself about where to find her character file and says we can keep talking, but again I go to just staring at her.

I delete Monika and she (although her sprite disappears) begs me to help her. I actually put the file back, but it didn't change anything. Instead she continues on and curses me for being cruel, then realizes she still loves me.

She realizes that she ruined the game for someone she loved, so she admits that she can restore the others and says she'll do it for the one she loves. The game restarts, and the main menu has the other three but not Monika.

The game restarts with Sayori in her correct place, except that now she's the one starting the club and I join on my own.

I'm into the first meeting with Natsuki and Yuri and so far things are going as normal.

Sayori is acting normal, but the oddest thing so far is that she failed to capitalize a word at the beginning of a sentence.

After the conversation ends, Sayori thanks me for getting rid of Monika. She admits to knowing everything, and thinks it's because the president of the book club knows the truth. Then she starts acting stalkery like Monika, only for Monika to stop her via scripting.

Monika tells me that there's no way to find happiness here, so she deletes the game and plays the credits while singing her piano song. At the end she deletes everything, writes one final letter to me, and the game ends. I try to restart the game and only get her letter again.

Overall, I greatly enjoyed DDLC. Did I get a bad ending?

No, that's the normal end. Congrats! Glad to see you enjoyed it. There's a Golden Ending but it's not really worth it IMO. You must unlock all the CGs. But then again spending time with all of them is enjoyable, so...

The ending credits really sold the game for me. Not that it wasn't great up until then, but I felt like it tied everything together really well.

But I freely admit to not really giving Natsuki much of a chance.
