Current Events > Well... my best friend's body was found. Ruled a homicide

She had been missing since December 4th. Her body was found and the cops won't say anything. Here's what I know:

Ex boyfriend kicked in her door (several months ago) and hit her in the head with a bat. The cops arrested him for the lightest possible charges (so our town wouldn't have any worse crime statistics) and he was sentenced to a halfway house (where he could basically do whatever he wanted until curfew).

The cops and media outright refuse to say anything, but there's all kinds of shady shit going on. Her car was found in a local (and very discrete) parking garage, though the cops claim the person responsible for that was not responsible.

I've lost more friends than I'd care to even think about, but this one...

Maybe because the FIRST time he did the exact same thing, he got a domestic assault charge and probation?? Maybe because when I was assaulted by a group of people and broke my back, they refused to write it up because they "couldnt" find info on the pussies??

It's probably the opposite of what you think. We almost never have any violence or trouble, so it's normally very safe.

I just don't see how it could possibly have been anybody but the ex boyfriend. He should have been in fucking prison. This WHOLE thing could have been avoided if the town wasn't so lax about this shit. It reminds me of that movie Hot Fuzz, except this isn't funny.

What I find a bit suspect is a guy getting off felonious assault, home invasion, and probably a slew of other charges so easy. There's no way they don't charge for felonious assault and home invasion unless she didn't press charges.

I did actually see it mentioned in the comments section, after thinking about it. I think that her local friends knew more about it than her family.

Huffington post actually aggressively pursued this and dug up a well-hidden article about the second assault. They put his name and ugly ass face out there.

I honestly hope he either commits suicide or loses himself in prison. The city council needs to be shown for what they really are. The courts could have prevented her murder and they didn't. Just because they didn't want the major bicycle tours to see this when they type our town into google.

The only thing this guy can do is just put a bullet in his head: a fitting end for a rotten soul. I do believe in heaven and hell, and I know which of them went where. It doesn't make me feel better, though.

There's a link, but I'd rather keep my hometown info private. I promise you that I told the truth, as outlandish as it seems. I PROMISE that she tried to press charges and to aggressively pursue them. We were talking daily about it until they released him to public custody. She was so terrified that she practically ran a zoo of people at her house.

To be fair, even in a legitimate investigation the police tend to not allow a lot of evidence out if the investigation is ongoing, and the media would want to report on anything they could find.

Either way, though, I'm really sorry to hear about that.

I realize they have to be careful, but most of my criticism comes from the way that the second assault was handled. The media buried that. They made an article and deleted it from their access, to where you had to google search to find it. In this town, every citizen would have known that guy's name and face for a crime like that, but they didn't want us to know about it. If more people knew, and the outcry was louder, they'd be pressured to admit whether he had been investigated or not.

The problem, again, is legality. Even if you know that the guy did it, you have to prove it. If they point fingers and it miraculously turns out to not be him, that would put them into a world of hurt. It's incredibly hard when you are dealing with a personal issue like that, but patience is key. No one wants him to get away and no media company would give up a juicy story like that if they thought they could legally back it.

Remember, in legal terms, it's not what you know, it's what you can prove.

Thanks, everybody. This whole case just reminds me so much of one of those murder documentaries I see on tv...

I would never want to commercialize this, but I strongly feel that the local council and media need to be publicly outed (and punished) for being so discrete. I wonder what steps I could take to appeal to a bigger media source to shed light on this?

This news just broke and the family has asked for privacy. I tried to prepare myself for this, because you know the saying about 48 hours, but I was completely unable to.

Again, this situation feels so much different from other friends who died from accidents or overdoses. Fucking homicide, guys. I've never had such a close friend be killed.

So much anger toward the city officials. She was close with my parents, too, and they had stayed very optimistic.

Our town is filled with transients. I mean, stocked to the brim with these fucking beggars. Last year, one murdered a lady in the park, and they buried that article so far that only social media told the story. These people might have been responsible, but considering dickface's criminal history assaulting her, I just don't know if it could have been anyone else
