When has the United States ever been so united against a single person? Say what you want about Trump, but the man can bring a diverse country full of people together in their hatred like no one else.

Nah. Take a look at the election results. Essentially half of all voters voted for him, assuming no illegal votes. Nothing has changed. With all the promises he's kept, including the recent tax bill, he would easily be over 50% if the election were held again tomorrow VS Hillary

Yeah you're right, I was just estimating since the US tends to be split between Repub and Democrat, you're right though, from a quick google search it looks like it is around 39%. Even then, that disproves the OP that everyone is united against him. Even if it is actually only 1/3rd, that is still at least 100 million people who like him, so the OP's claim is still ridiculous

As Ive explained on here before, youre being dishonest painting all poll results as unreliable just because the ones in 2016 werent 100% accurate. Especially because there are huge fundamental differences between polling to predict an election result and polling for approval rating.

Election predictions are inherently much tougher to nail down, because you have to figure out not only who a person supports, but whether theyre likely to vote or not. In hindsight its clear that Trump really fired up his base and got better than expected voter turnout, while Hillary had the opposite effect and caused fewer people on the left to vote.

In contrast, approval polls are as simple as getting a representative sample of the population and asking them do you approve of Trumps job performance? Those kinds of polls are as reliable as you can get.

Tl;dr: Educate yourself a bit, and stop making dishonest statements just because you cant stand the idea that the majority of Americans do not approve of your orange messiah.

25% voted for Trump, 25% voted for Clinton and 47% didn't bother to vote at all. That tells me that the 47% who refused to vote had no problem with either Trump or Clinton winning. Thus, Trump has 72% support of the US population behind him.

What math are you using?

538 put trump's chances at 30% and basically noted what would be required was every swing state that was within margin of error go trump's way with zero exceptions

and that's what happened

most other reputable poll aggregators gave him similar chances of winning.

so i'd love to hear where shawn thinks he heard people with any understanding of how to interpret polls claiming trump had a 1% chance of victory

because that's not what anyone who knew anything about statistics was saying

my guess is he is lying

@0AbsoluteZero0 I'm sure that they are to some extent flawed, mostly because a lot of polling seems to be designed to game a desired outcome or conclusion. There's a deceptive element in it that isn't usually seen in other kinds of data collection, chief.

The fact that poll numbers are often weighted due to the leaning of the base of the organization conducting them is well known. Which is why people aggregate polls from large amounts of places of various size and standpoints across the political spectrum.

Even in said aggregation Trump's numbers are sub-40

Fair enough, youre right that bias can influence those numbers to a degree. But as ultimate reaver correctly pointed out, thats why you look at aggregate poll numbers rather than one in specific. And even Trumps best poll, the right-leaning Rasmussen poll, only has him in the mid 40s. His numbers are bigly sad
