I heard that argument before and thought it was pretty sensible. The question shouldn't require you to be evaluating the most balanced choice based on the wording. I did think adding a new ability made sense as a specifically design oriented change. That's why I need to hear the real explanation.

There is usually one dev person on the design team for each set but generally yeah theyre different teams that serve different purposes. They dont really work in tandem, as least as far as I understand how the lifecycle of a set works.

I dont know what the actual answer to the question, but like I said, that option is a change design would make, the others are ones development would probably make.


"change the number of cards revealed to a fixed number" seems to be the answer.
I think that makes sense as a design decision because it makes the difference between synergizing with stuff like treasure tokens and Fabricate or... not synergizing with them.

Well both of the options have synergy with the base design

One has synergy with the sacrifice effect being usable on more things you'd want to use it on in a useful way
One allows the sacrifice effect to more frequently be used on more desirable targets by being able to cheat them into play

But the latter is broken ergo you should favor the non-broken design. If nothing else you could say to make development's job easier

also it may not be about design vs development at all, but about the general principle that repeatable sacrifice outlets should work with tokens. It's the most likely change because a card like that not working with tokens would be a bummer.

Ulti, since you like to bring up the Borborygmos/Pithing Needle thing up, are you aware they actually changed that policy with Amonkhet? Under the new system, cards chosen have to be unambiguous and you don't have to actually know the name of the card as long as everyone agrees on the card that was picked.

I dunno if anyone else has been watching the Modern Pro Tour, but this Hollow One deck is hilarious. It's basically a Hearthstone deck. It uses Burning Inquiry and Goblin Lore to randomly discard cards and hopes to play 0 mana 4/4s. 5/6 of the people playing it made Day 2 and there's one in the Top 8 right now.

Sure, he says it's more about properly defending your answers. I feel good about those two because my explanation for my answers is similar to his too. It makes me feel optimistic that I had an effective argument style in the test overall.

I think the most frustrating thing if I don't make the top 8 will be not knowing which part screwed me up since they're judging the design and essays now. It could be that my designs weren't good enough, or they were good enough but my essays weren't. I'll never know.

This is pretty much what I thought it would be based on GDS2. I'm surprised it's all multicolored though. I might try it out for fun, who knows.

I think that meant don't directly reference the concept of commanders or the command zone in your cards. If someone wanted to make a UR legendary creature that cares about artifacts and just happens to be good as a commander that would probably be ok.

That design contest is harder than I first though. I have 8 designs I like, but I just noticed that I'm trying to make an enchantment but I already have a WB enchantment and have WU, UB, and BG open, which is forcing me to go back and look for weaker designs I have to eliminate or ones I can move into other colors.

It's a little awkward that your RG spell gives first strike and then fights. Not sure if there's a better way to do it though. Maybe a 'fight' that isn't simultaneous?
