it refused to start up or anything, only option was to wipe the computer. kept all files though, but programs were removed. i did a full scan run with windows defender and that's how it found the trojan, it said it removed it. i did an additional full run with avira and nothing was detected anymore.

would you say the computer is safe now? i haven't been using it but it seemed to perform better by wiping it. i changed a few of my passwords after the incident, primarily my PSN and email are the most important. i don't own any credit cards or bank accounts to have anything like that online. but my PSN is highly valuable to me as i've had it for years and bought many games on it.

idk worst case scenario lately for a trojan is they're using your computer as a bot to post stuff on the internet to spread viruses and it lags your system

my computer wouldn't even boot up from it, gave me the option to wipe the system and then it was fine, even better performing. but still did the windows defender and avira scans.

Theoretically, you should be fine. However, being anal/paranoid with security and PC integrity, I'd back up my files to another location like OneDrive or Google Drive, reformat the hard drive(s), and start from scratch by reinstalling the OS, assuming you don't have a system restore point somewhere.

i sure hope the files are still useable, i clicked the option to wipe the computer out of desperation, it was a bad night for me i have aspergers so it sent me off the deep end. i think it was thursday when this happened and i've still been in shock and paranoia, i used the computer for a few more days reinstalling a few things but right now i'm just using the new computer which i had in my closet unopened for a few years. it runs on windows 8, but i'm preferring it atm since that other laptop i've been using for years.

i thought you could switch to windows 10 whenever you wanted, but looks like that door is closed for this newer laptop.

If the other laptop has been in a closet unopened for a few years, I HIGHLY recommend updating your drivers, antivirus, and OS patches immediately. If you have the spare coin, I recommend upgrading to Windows 10 so at least it'll get the latest patches.

yeah its been going through updates ever since i opened it thursday. it wants me to restart constantly for new updates. my drivers and antivirus are up to date. i'm not sure how to update OS however? maybe it did that however. hm.

one thing is that in devices and printers it has a caution symbol on the computer, i trouble shoot, and it says Microsoft wi-fi virtual adapter is running into issues. idk what that is, but when i apply the fix it says trouble shooting was unable to fix. would you know what that is? thank you for your help btw.

also, do you think they'll give out windows 10 again? i read they want as many people on it as possible to leave behind older windows. if they offer it i'll jump on it asap.

Unless it literally flashed your bios you can probably get rid of it by formatting and reinstalling windows.
