I never got one until I started chain-fishing in gen 6. Which I maintain defeats the purpose because I literally went out of my way to find a shiny, as opposed to just stumbling on one.

I found a few way back in Gold (Mareep, Geodude and others IIRC) and also got Pokerus (which I haven't had since).
Then I didn't find any for years, until I got one in Moon recently (Salandit I think). I was EV training using SOS battles when it appeared. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I only have seen one randomly appear without trying. It was a shiny Onix in Platinum.
In X I got two shiny Charmanders and a shiny Staryu through breeding. I was only going for one shiny Charmander, but I welcomed the second one to be my Mega Charizard Y online. --- Many Bothans died to bring you this post. ... Copied to Clipboard!
