Does anyone ever tell you they're surprised to hear you're a sports fan? I don't know if I should be offended by that or not.

Yeah. Also sometimes I like to pretend I don't know as much about sports as I do because I feel like a nerd. People who know a lot about sports are nerds just like with any other topic. I mean, remember Stump the Schwab? Look at that fucking guy. NEEEEEEEEEERD

Sports fandom is usually looked at as a macho thing as opposed to video games or whatever, so I guess I could see how it's an insult. But it's one of those things where, when you know too much about it, you're suddenly a nerd. I've had conversations with other people I found out were sports fans and I can visually see the look on their face when I've gone beyond their knowledge and they're just like.."uh huhh".

A guy I work with was stunned that I had an opinion on football today.

Oh yeah the suck a dick guy. He said he wouldn't suck a dick for like a million bucks or something dumb like that. That was at my previous job. I'll try to think about the women thing and see if I come up with anything.

I thought about it again. It was definitely the suck a duck guy. I'm was just getting confused with other PotD work stories.

Without spoiling too much, does Stardew Valley ever end, or can you just keep playing it indefinitely? I've been playing it with the mindset of "beating" it (which for me means playing it a lot to get through it) but the further I get the more uncertain I am there is an end. It seems like there's so much to do and I can't imagine I'd get it all done unless the game is really long or just lets you keep going. It's already been really long, not that I don't enjoy it, but it's quite the investment.

And if it does end, is it based on a fixed time, or accomplishing certain events (don't say what, though I have my own idea of what it might be)?

Fixed time. I haven't even reached that point yet, but I was curious like you and I looked it up when I was playing.

I mean to say I looked up if there was an ending, not that I looked at the actual ending.

Ah, my theory was going to be that the game ends when your kids grow up and can take over the farm, but I'm glad it's not like that since I don't know if I even want kids. Although if I don't have kids I'm not sure my character will ever get laid

I don't want to give away much so I'll just say Ultima is right that the thing he's referring to is on a fixed time, but don't worry about it because you're not actually on any kind of time limit.

Sports columnists are insane. Bernie Miklasz, maybe the most famous STL columnist, wrote that the Skins trading for Alex Smith was a good move. Ok whatever. But he managed to devote a third of his column space talking about how overpaid Sam Bradford is. Everyone who ever covered the Rams is absolutely obsessed with Sam Bradford. Still writing about him even though we haven't had a team in two years and haven't had Bradford longer than that.

I was there from 7am - about 2pm on Saturday and they played Livin on a Prayer/Cherry Pie/ Stroke Me / Here I Go Again On My Own type songs literally the whole time I was there
our first game was originally scheduled for 8am, and the next at 10:15 am. I figured I'd be gone by noon. But the ice was shitty so they delayed it by 2 hours and it was still shitty.
Reese's puffs was a big sponsor so I got like 10 2 oz fun size boxes of that, at least

Its not seeing them win I have a issue with. Its more of it feeling like somehow in the conspiracy world, the patriots are The Skulls or Illuminati. That no other team can somehow make the proper adjustments or stay consistent in all 4 quarters is too strange now.

I don't know what that post is trying to say, but I doubt there is really a conspiracy. I do think there is at least some kind of subconscious officiating bias, since they are perceived as a highly disciplined team. I also think that teams start getting in their own heads too much when they have the Pats on the ropes. I don't think they are truly the world-beaters they used to be, but everyone thinks they are and makes it a self-fulfulling prophecy with their mistakes.

Remember that they never had a blowout win in the Super Bowl, and that trend will probably continue. Will the Eagles be able to avoid psyching themselves out?

Was it like this with the Cowboys in the 90s, 49ers in the 80s, Steelers in the 70s, Packers in the 60s... ?

Im old enough to remember the 49ers and Cowboys dynasties. I remember the Boys having a lot of off-field shenanigans, but I dont recall any of these teams coming under the intense scrutiny that the Patriots have during their run.

Fans need to understand, its not going to last much longer. Hell, it could end this very Sunday, though Im fairly certain Belichick and Brady will both be back regardless of the outcome in the SB. Just the same, Brady has maybe 2, 3... 5 years left in him at best? He has to break down at some point.

Belichick may want to prove he can win a Super Bowl without Brady, so maybe he doesnt retire when Brady finally hangs it up. Doesnt mean Belichick will stay with the Pats.

It's been almost 20 fucking years, nobody wants to hear this "it won't last forever" or "appreciate it now because we won't see anything like it again" shit.

I know you didn't say the latter specifically, but it's in the same vein as the former, and I've seen other people use it a lot.

But while most dynasties are a decade at most, this one is going on two. Basically all my football watching life has been dread that the Patriots will win the Super Bowl that year. It gets old.

I don't know if we'll see another dynasty. Belichick is basically in a different league than any other coach in the NFL. Those guys don't come around often. I think most years you wouldn't even say that the Patriots are the most talented team in the league. They get a lot out of their players and run a tight system, but compare it to the Cowboys dynasty which was insanely loaded with talent. However, that kind of dynasty isn't feasible now either with contract situations as they are. You have to have insanely good drafts and rookie FA pickups, but even then that could only last four or five years before the players get too expensive.

As an Eagles fan, I really hope so. That kinda happened the last time they faced each other; McNabb played well enough, but was throwing up on the field. I think he choked under the pressure.

I'd really not like to see another Patriot SB win in any case. I want them to get blown out.
