So my gf and I were making some basic mixed drinks. Just whiskey and ginger ale. On the rocks.

When I took my first sip, it seriously smelled like someone farted right in my cup. She had the same issue.

Upon further research, it appears that ice absorbs smell VERY easily. So if you have any rotten food in your freezer(news to me), it'll copy that smell.

Shit was gross fam

Sounds like someone had something laying on top of the ice maker for a while.

Maybe, but that'd be kinda hard with our freezer layout.

We tossed some old meat awhile back, I think that was the cause. It sat in there for a year probably.

Empty your freezer and wipe everything down including the frozen stuff.

Throw away anything old or questionable.

Make new ice.

Also they sell baking soda freezer boxes that keep it smelling fresh.

Yeah it was really hard to finish my drink lmao.

Plus I wasn't sure if it had bacteria, or just smell.

Cleaning fish and storing them in an icebox is how I learned this not that you'd want to use the ice afterwards or anything >_>

My wife likes to freeze chopped onion. Occasionally I get onion ice. Thankfully I almost never use ice.

And as someone else said, you may have sulfer in your water. I recommend flushing your hot water tank.

Would my regular water smell like this too? I only ever noticed it with ice.

I'm new to home ownership, so not sure what flushing a hot water tank entails.

The water may smell, maybe not. When my tank needed flushed, I could notice it a bit from my bathroom sink, but not my shower or kitchen sink.

And flushing a tank is very easy, just requires a hose.
