FORMER child star Macaulay Culkin has opened up about the shocking abuse which led him to leave Hollywood.

Culkin, 37, claimed his father, Kit, was mentally and physically abusive and jealous of him, and made threats including, Do good or Ill hit you.

The reclusive actor made the claims in a revealing interview with Marc Maron on his WTF podcast.

The Home Alone star took his parents to court when he was 15-years-old, over his US $17 million earnings.

Everything he (Culkins father) tried to do in life, I excelled at before I was 10-years-old, Culkin told Marons WTF podcast.

Culkins parents divorced after he filmed Richie Rich in 1994, which he called one of the best things thats every happened because it led to him leaving Hollywood.

I even wanted to take a break for a while and eventually I was like Im done guys, hope you all made your money because there is no more coming from me, he said.

I wonder how often he's talked to his either of his parents since the divorce, if even at all. Being famous to the degree he was in the 90's is scary enough on its own, but the idea of that combined with being a minor & having parents you can't even rely on for proper protection or emotional support is so frightening to me.

Looking back it's kind of a shame because even though at the time I thought he was hammy as Hell in retrospect he was one of the better child actors at the time.

Then again it's probably good he got out before what happened to Corey Feldman would happen to him.

yeah, they have it rough
to get into hollywood their parents have to be connected, rich, and have a certain personality that drives them to put their children into situations where they can be cast. they're impressionable, have very few friends their age / always hanging out with older cast members, and get the fame and fortune go to their head
add in the many drug problems and sexual abuse, and it's a wonder we have any normally adjusted child stars
