Board 8 > Auditioning for a cooking show and I need your help!

On a whim, I applied for a cooking competition show that is designed to help people become better chefs - not a show where I'm competing to be the best chef.

I've had a phone interview and Skype interview with the show and they are still interested in me and I'm moving along the process. I'm so excited and really hope that I get to be on television!

Part of my next step is to film a video of me cooking. They told me to find the most complicated recipe I can to do. They also told me the meal cannot take longer than 20 minutes to complete.

These two criteria together are where I'm struggling. Any recipes I find that I can complete in 20 minutes don't seem complicated.

So, board 8, I call on you to help me. Find me a complicated recipe that is doable in 20 minutes. Please! If I use your recipe and get on the show, I'll give you a call out on camera, with no guarantee that that footage will make it into the episode.

It's not really all that complicated, but it LOOKS complicated, and can probably be done within 20 minutes if you're quick at chopping and don't necessarily cook them until they're perfect

My wife loves that show. It seems like they go for colorful personalities and quirky characters, so try to ham it up.

My friend who agreed to film me doing this says I need to pick something that overwhelms me to the point that I cry and then I'm sure to get cast.

Even worse, here's everything I'm supposed to include in those 20 minutes

Please introduce yourself with your name, age and city/state

Tell us what you are cooking (give details, example: where did you find this recipe, have you made it before, what happened last time you tried making it, etc)

Show us and walk us through the recipe details (we want to hear what you are doing along the way so explain each step of the cooking process).

After your item is done cooking, we want to see what you think of your finished product and if someone is able to taste it and tell us their thoughts of the meal as well! Please have the person tasting your meal to be detailed and explain why they dislike it and or anything else you have cooked in the past that they have also tried. (the more details the better!)

Here are some questions you can ask the person tasting your meal on camera to have them answer them in detail:

1. So what does it taste like?
2. What would you compare the taste to?
3. Can you share a memory of the last time I attempted to cook for you?
4. What was the worst cooked meal good Ive ever made?
5. Why do you think I need to be on this show?

Also, I obviously don't know how your cooking is, but having seen the show and seen you post on the board for years, you seem far too competent to be cast on this, given the general quality of contestants they get!

Yeah, I don't think I'm anywhere near as bad as a lot of the contestants are, but every season seems to have one person who is way above the rest of them so I'm hoping to be that person!

My cooking skills are pretty sub-par, but I'm a quick learner.

A couple of years ago, one of the guys did this (jailhouse burrito) as his signature dish in the opening episode, and ended up winning the season. So there may be something here.

Difficult to pull off, lots of ingredients. Only 20 minutes.

Oh man I would fail at that one so hard. That looks like a winner to me.

I've never cooked with foie gras or figs, I don't know how to julienne cut something, the amount of ingredients looks overwhelming.

Actually, Chicken livers can give you a foie gras taste on a budget. Unfortunately it takes forever to make.

Stir-fry was what I was thinking. When my husband makes anything Asian I'm overwhelmed at how many ingredients the sauces have in them.

My personal recommendation is you try to make pasta but boil the water with the pasta inside. The result will be a disgusting goopy mess. The people on this show pretend not to know how to fry an egg so this seems adequate.

You should look up some absolutely ridiculous amalgamation of shit that a stoner ate when they were really high but treat it like a serious recipe

The 20 minutes involves almost no "cooking" but mainly just adding more and more ingredients

Seriously, try eggs benedict. It's a classic, quick recipe but poaching an egg can be hilarious if you've never done it before. I'm picturing a montage of you ruining a dozen eggs before finally getting it halfway right.

Bagged salad with added cheese (Shred it yourself becasue why not), croutons with dressing.
Eggs & pork roll sandwich.

This, but add the seasoning (and any other packets) at the wrong time and don't fill the water to the line. Stop to stir halfway through even if the instructions don't say to do that, then stir with a metal spoon and put it back in the microwave with the spoon still in it >_>
