One thing you will get with the pixel 2 XL is a little transfer device, make sure you plug it into your old iphone basically right away, as the pixels transfer system requires you to do it at the start of the setup

Hell yeah, dude. That phone looks awesome. I had the Nexus 4 when it first launched. Having a vanilla Android phone by Google was the best. You'll love it.

Only issue I read about is the blue tint on the screen. I took a look at my friend's and brother-in-law's Pixel 2 XL and though I notice a slight blue tint, it doesn't seem that notable. It doesn't seem to bother them either. Of course it just comes down to personal preference.

it's not just that but the very slight changes in viewing angle create a big change in color. it took a long time to adjust to that, and you gotta hold the screen facing you dead on to avoid seeing it. some phones have better screens. the quality is... inconsistent.

also quite a few people with screen burn in issues early on

Wowza. It's one thing if the flaw is across all/majority of the phones, another if it's sporadic. Well, I skipped the Pixel in hopes the next phone would be better and now I'm hoping the Pixel 3 will be better. Ain't holding my breath.

For better of worse, I really like the Google phones and getting the OS update early but depending on how they are when my Nexus 6P have one leg in the grave, I might have to consider switching.

Forgot bout that. I've been noticing something similar in my Nexus 6P but of course this is after two years of using it. Is this only with the XL version? I tend to like the larger size but if this repeats itself, I might have to give up on Huawei and go back to LG.

Most phones seem to have the blue tint. There's a software fix in 8.1 where you can change the screen to other color balances, but honestly, I found that made it look too red/yellow (and oversaturated) and I kept it normal. My screen does look really blue and dull vs. my 6P. Not all screens have the viewing angle issues either. So no idea what happened there.

But after using the Pixel 2 XL for a month, the 6P screen looks oversaturated and inaccurate. I actually don't like using it anymore. It looks wrong. What I see on the Pixel is very close to what I see in lightroom on my configured IPS panels. Just somewhat too blue. Saturation and contrast wise? highly accurate. So I went from hating the dull blue screen to appreciating it from a photography perspective. because the camera on that phone is amaaaaaaazing and if you're not taking pictures with it you're missing out. I now sometimes reach for my phone instead of my DSLR to get relatively tricky shots (low light where fast focus and tracking are vital), which I never thought would happen with a phone camera.

Probably the worst thing about the screen is when your screen brightness is low and you scroll past something with black in it. The OLED does not refresh quickly and you just get big streaks of black. It's extremely distracting and probably my biggest issue with the screen at this point, because it looks so ridiculously bad. the 6P has AMOLED and doesn't do anything like this

Yeah, the normal 2 has a different manufacturer and a different screen. Supposed to be consistent and higher quality. I'd suggest give up on huawei anyway. My 6P started having serious issues and their service costs are ridiculous (they wanted over $230 to replace the battery).

The 2 XL is made by LG, by the way... if you want LG hardware get the Pixel 2 XL.

Do you have a case and screen protector ready? Or do you go naked with your phones? A friend questioned why I bought the case and screen protector early but I simply can't go naked on a new phone until maybe 2+ years after.

Even now whenever I take my Nexus 6P out of the case I feel Murphy's Law is gonna slap me and it'll slip out of my hand. Hell, even if I was careful the surface texture does feel too smooth to have a good grip.

This too. Also, I know that back in my home town, UPS does personal in the morning and business in the afternoon while FedEx in business in the morning personal in the afternoon. While where I love now, it's the opposite. As in UPS does business in the morning and personal in the afternoon, while FedEx does personal on the morning, business in the afternoon.

it blocks ads on anything. you download a free app that has ads?
blocks them.

you go somewhere on the web browser? no ads.

On this, dont download any battery saver/phone cleaner apps. Ever!
They cause damage to the software and glitches on the phone. Plus they are a drain on the battery. I am pretty sure google has its own software that does this built into the phone, i know samsung does.
Plus if you are not rooting for any adblocks, these apps are really bad for ads, adware, and such.

yeah. the only way to properly block ads on the device is through rooting and editing the hosts file.

any ad block program flat out does not work and does the opposite. they're really bad. like install shit to your phone without your permission bad. hijacking other apps to deliver ads to you through your homescreen bad.

it's gross.

I think the closest thing I have to a battery save is one that adjusts the screen brightness. Beyond that I don't think it touch any apps.

As for cleaner, I use CCleaner. I have been using CClearer on my home computer for years hence why I trust it on my phone. I think beyond deleting my call history, cache, and empty folders it doesn't do anything too crazy. Are you suggesting these cleaners do more than the simple stuff that I can manually do myself?

For clearing cache there is built in maintaince option in the settings that will clear it.
Call history you do have to do manually, but to be truthful it takes kbs of space at most, so unless you are covering your tracks with something no point on deleting it.

The Pixel 2XL is phenomenal. The stock Google experience is way better than devices with OEM skins.
Not to mention the timely updates you'll get, including the monthly security patches to ensure your phone is safe against the latest exploits.

Don't get me wrong, Samsung makes phenomenal hardware. But in the long run, software is way more important. And with a Pixel, you have lasting power of always running the latest version of Android.
