80/80

Context: I'm a sales goon just updating my resume. It's been pointed out that I should highlight my study abroad experience, even though it was just a summer.

Anyways the school in question has an English name, for all intents and purposes, we'll refer to as "Generic University." However, in Chinese, its name is four Chinese characters, which, for all intents and purposes, are "."

Example A (a.k.a Poll Option #1): ", Taipei, Taiwan"

Example B (a.k.a Poll Option #2): "Generic University, Taipei, Taiwan"

Example C (a.k.a Poll Option #3) " (Generic University), Taipei, Taiwan"
Example C.5 (a.k.a Poll Option #3.5) " (Generic University), Taipei, Taiwan"

NOTE that my current job and likely future jobs have nothing to do with China/Taiwan, for what that's worth

I don't think it's particularly tacky, but I wouldn't do it unless knowledge of Chinese was an asset in the job. Just use the English name.

I wouldn't do it. They already understand that it's a foreign university by looking at the city. Chinese characters would just clutter the resume.

Honestly if I saw a resume like that pop on my desk I'd either assume it was spam or just someone being a know-it-all. Just use English, you don't get weaboo points for trying.

But the thing is, it's not like this is the first thing that shows up. It's my personal info, three jobs, my actual college, and then this place. It's just one little blip under the education section. It's not supposed to be the focal point of why you should hire me, but rather just a little asterisk that might get you to do a double-take.

Given the hundreds of resumes people see on a daily basis, a double-take is far more preferable than the lazy-eyed gloss-over

But what does it add? Don't think that "eye-catching" is necessarily a desirable trait if eye-catching is potentially obnoxious.

It doesn't add anything that isn't already there. But my concern is again the dead-eyed HR guy crashing from his 2PM coffee who scans over the schools and sees just a bunch of random universities; he/she may not even see the "Taipei, Taiwan bit if he/she isn't drawn to it somehow.

Oh that is really helpful, thank you. Will take it off.

To add to that, my family is from Hong Kong and we live in Canada. I've never seen my parents use anything other than just the English name on their own resumes, and none of their acquaintances do either. It's always Hong Kong Polytechnic University or whatever, not Chinese.

Why do you have study abroad listed in the same area as the schools you actually attended?

I'm saying you should list it in a separate part of your resume.

There isn't really a place for it though. Like it belongs under education, and even though it was only a summer, it merits its own mention, as opposed to a little sub-footnote under my main university (which I don't have anything there because my GPA was awful and I didn't get any honors or anything lmao)

So it doesn't really feel right giving it its own line in the education section, but at the same time, it's more than a footnote or extra-curricular, and deserves more than just being a footnote under my main college

If that makes sense

I have mine listed in the same section as internships. For me, that was mainly motivated by the fact that it was a more intensive program than the sort of "dick around for five weeks in Paris" type study abroads, so I wrote a little blurb to emphasize it.

Yeah that's the other problem, I never had any internships. I just got my first sales gig right outta college
