If anything, they proved the fallacy in the pro net neutrality argument. They don't currently slow down their service for consumers because they know that their customers can always go to Wendy's. Government legislation isn't what's preventing fast food throttling.... common sense and the free market is what prevents that from occuring. If there's a lack of competition in regards to ISPs, it's due to government regulation. That government regulation is the result of returned favors to Comcast and the like for their continuous campaign contributions to politicians on both sides of the aisle. So net neutrality is a government solution to a government problem.

It would be like if Burger King had paid both Trump and Hillary to pass a law banning any burgers from not being flame broiled, and then also paid them to not allow anyone else to flame broil burgers. Then we as citizens would be at their mercy, and would be dependent on the government to create regulations preventing them from throttling us on our food service times.

....right. Because of a high cost of entry into the industry, due to excessive government regulation which stifles free market competition, which is perpetuated due to the campaign contributions given to politicians on both sides from the largest companies in said industry. Google 'corporate oligarchy', and then google the list of politicians that Comcast donated towards in 2016.

I still remember when companies advertised product instead of virtue.

To be fair, restaurants have fewer logistical and infrastructure challenges than ISPs which is why a few smaller ISPs are basically just white-label offerings.

No, actually, I quite liked this post of yours:

I have a very clear understanding of it, I just have family who is either deep blue or deep red and the other side is simply wrong no matter what.

Yup.

The point he's making is correct in a general sense, but nowadays even if all government regulation were taken away from the industry we would still be left with only a few powerhouse companies. The infrastructure required to provide everyone with internet is mind-bogglingly expensive. A startup with a couple million dollars wouldn't so much as be able to serve a town, nevermind try and actually compete. Right now all the smaller businesses that exist are merely renting the equipment off of the big boys, so even if they're "losing customers" to the other businesses, they are still making money off of them.

People don't seem to realize how ISPs do business. I'm a design engineer. I design fiber and coax networks. So I work with them from pre-construction walkouts all the way to the point they run a drop to your house. Here's the flat out truth.

ISPs are crooked assholes.

In the 4 years I've been dealing with them government regulations only came up once. It was when the FCC made a term of the Charter/Time Warner merger that they had to run overbuild. That was a good regulation. It meant that if there was only one ISP in your area, they had to share the pole lines or conduit with them, the competition. Guess what The current administration just lifted that rule. So don't blame the government for the problems with ISPs. They pretty much make their own rules, that's why they suck.
I can give you a laundry list of the shady shit they do on a regular basis, if you feel like hating them even more. You don't even want to know why your bill is so high, and the degree to which the completely waste money. It's staggering.

Who is forcing you to eat at Burger King? And given that someone is forcing you to eat at Burger King is a lengthy wait in line your biggest concern?
