Before, they were claiming the tax cuts wouldn't benefit normal people. Well, not only are our checks going up, but big corporations are giving out $1,000 bonuses to their their regular employees.

For example, Disney is giving the bonuses to 125,000 workers.

http://time.com/money/5116168/disney-is-giving-some-of-its-employees-a-1000-bonus/

Sooo rather than taking the win and being happy for Americans, they are now acting like that's not enough, like it's a drop in the bucket, like it's crumbs?

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/pelosi-wasserman-schultz-rip-1000-tax-reform-bonuses-crumb/article/2647049

Who's really the out of touch ones? A thousand free bucks to regular lower and middle class folks is a great thing. Why the fuck are these leaders working to undermine our nation and its people?

The Democrats tell us that a thousand bucks is "crumbs" when in reality, that thousand bucks takes a significant chunk out of the increased health insurance costs the Democrats told us would actually go down.

I mean, if we're talking about CE specifically we're talking about entitled people from the west coast so of course they don't understand how 1000 dollars helps normal people.

To them, you just need to move out of the "shit hole" that is the mid-west

Also it's going to be taxed.

Also, it's in place of a wage increase which would pay out more in the long run.

Basically the supporters are being captivated by the shiny object in the room.

It's just people's views of "fair".

See, for example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimatum_game

If you're the one who picks the split, you should take anything that isn't zero, but in real life simulations people choose to "punish" someone who doesn't give a reasonable split.

Getting $100m in new tax breaks and giving $1m of that to your employees and just pocketing the rest is viewed poorly when we could have had a system that gave $10m in tax breaks to that company and used the other $90m for programs people benefit from.

It's not worthless, and anyone who says that is wrong (who is saying that?). But it's a one time thing, while the corporations are getting a permanent tax cut, and we're using the deficit to fund that. Plus any bonuses are going only to employees of corporations who happen to give them, which is a small fraction of all Americans. It would have been more efficient to use that deficit spending to just give everyone $1000.

Its not that its worthless, its that it could and should be more when compared to the millions of savings the corporations are getting from the tax scam.

For reference, a $1000 one-time bonus works out to just under a one-time 50 cent raise for a year. A $1/hour raise works out to $2080 a year, assuming 40 hours a week in both cases.

How much of that people actually see depends on how bonuses are taxed vs regular pay, and individual circumstance.

IIRC bonuses are taxed as "supplemental income" regardless of your income, so you're looking at least 25% off the top.

Never had enough of a bonus in my life to count, so I wouldn't know.

I think the argument would be let's say 2.5 million people get this bonus. That's about 1% of the population getting a grand.

So how much more are corporations saving on that vs what could help everyone. I'm for lower taxes and I think it will help corporations keep unemployment in check and prices down but to say 1% got a grand is a shitty argument.

This sounds very high. How accurate is that?

I mean workers withholdings are gonna change due to the lower rates and I'm gonna make a bold assumption that the workforce has tens of millions of people in it, so that should increase take home pay for them.
