And the FCC is opposing it. Thank God. Tired of the NSA's bullshit excuses about terrorism.

Edit: NSC, not NSA.

Why is this a bad thing

Because the NSA doesn't need even more anti-privacy power, and centralizing 5G is a great way to ensure mobile networks will deteriorate in quality and accessibility over time. Free market is best market.

This is a bad thing. Some things need to be nationalized, like roads and other types of transportation infrastructure. But this is not one of those things.

Oh I agree. And comparing it to net neutrality isn't fair. NN wasn't nationalizing it was just a way to keep any group from having too much control.

They've done it before x.x

But the fight between government and big business should be neat. Maybe contracts can be sold to be big guys and they can fight with each other like good capitalists. Makes the net neutrality repeal useless

I only have objections to double standards. When the Democrats wanted more control over the Internet, nobody on the left had an issue with it.

Is there evidence that a private entity can provide nation-scale road/bridge/etc infrastructure at at least the cost and quality of the one we have now?

Yeah I'm against nationalizing internet access in any form whatsoever. Doesn't matter who proposes it. In the same way, I'm against stunting the progress of solar energy and electric vehicles and autonomous driving no matter who proposes actions against those things.

That's a bullshit talking point. Let's be real. Leftists want to control it for the purpose of censorship and more effective propaganda dissemination, just like the far right would. They don't really give a damn about the American people.

Competition in the free market is what takes the best care of the American people.

Net neutrality wasn't control over the internet. It was guidelines preventing ISPs from fucking us. This is a flat power grab in which the government would control the entire network and rent ISPs access

Net neutrality is about control.

Youre not gonna be invaded unless youre doing shady shit.

Ill take a guy 300 miles away peeping at my grandma if it means a subway car full of people arent blown to pieces.

We live in a world where one person can cause so much destruction. You can stick to your privacy principles, but Id rather know if my neighbor is mailing nail bombs.

Youre not gonna be publicly outed for doing weird shit. Go ahead and muck up the war on terror because youre ashamed of your anime babe body pillows.

That's fair, but are you honestly suggesting that people on the left aren't going to take issue with this? The very fact that Trump supports it guarantees at least a few hitpieces on major networks. I can't think of a single thing Trump has done that hasn't at least gotten negative CNN coverage.

Nothing. Your question was just so unbelievably stupid that I didn't think it deserved a response. Like seriously, you really think this was my first criticism of Trump? Have you seen and collected all of my posts about Trump in order to say whether or not it was my first criticism? If you'd been collecting my posts to begin with you'd have known what my views are on all kinds of things, like environmental preservation, renewable energy, space exploration, etc. And if you weren't paying attention to my posts, maybe you should've realized that and not actually asked such a sweeping question.

Also note that your opinion is of so little value to me (on any topic) that I'm only responding to you now because of your repeated posts in this topic.

It depends on how it's implemented. We don't have enough details at this point to say much about it.

Like, obviously there would be versions of this where it wouldn't be "hypocritical" to be against it.

we'll just have to see. honestly there's also a chance they might not report it at all. if there's no outrage, cnn isn't interested.

Are we ignoring the fact that the TC linked to a CNN article on this very topic in the very first post?

Ah okay, then you're right that it'll depend on the outrage level. Given that the FCC chief opposes it, the story probably ends there unless it's a slow news night and they want to run a "look how Trump's own government doesn't support him" story.
