I made a little less than 10k gross last year, all of it was from this employer and a solid 20%-ish was withheld for taxes. I expect several hundred dollars back unless I'm missing something.

If you made less than $10,000 you're going to get back more than you paid in taxes.

That's not necessarily true.

If I got back even half of what I paid in taxes I'd be ecstatic

When you are that low I believe your basic exemptions effectively mean you pay no taxes.

I'm thinking about reaching out to a place I worked at for less than a month or so last year that I only earned like, $300 tops from. It's the only W-2 I haven't gotten yet so I'm still waiting for it.

it should of been sent in by now. tax season started today.

@ImAMarvel

Typically speaking, Companies send out w2s for all employees that worked there throughout the course of the year no matter how short their stay was. I have to send a bunch out for some people that only worked a couple of months last year for my company. They'll probably send it out to your address at the end of the month.

That's for NEXT tax season. 2017 is still under old tax rules and laws.

Yeah, sorry. Got them confused. He should still get every penny back with the deduction and exemption.

From some google searching:

Information from your last paystub can be used in lieu of an errant w2.

Without that, contact the IRS for a form (#4852) that will allow you to estimate your income and taxes withheld .
