I don't know why it is being viewed as seats being taken away or given up, tbh.

I mean, it really kind of is, though. It's not necessarily literal but a bigger table with more seats is functionally the same thing as giving up your seat(s) if what you're interested in is the dynamics of power between two groups -- like if we were talking about Democrats and Republicans, for instance, I don't think anyone would be questioning this logic

I take your point, though, that race relations aren't necessarily structured that same zero sum, confrontational way.

Their addition will necessitate a bigger table

i don't think the table actually gets bigger. if we had 1000 house reps instead of 438, we would be diluting the power of each individual rep, for example

Well that would be a bad situation, but I wouldn't envision such a big change at all in the process. Regardless, having liaisons to other communities and business prospects to develop, the pie would get bigger. Trades between the communities would see a boost in the growth of local economies of scale, leading to greater development. Still a 250% staff increase is definitely not a realistic scenario.

it's just a (hyperbolic) example

what is true is that adding people doesn't mean one person goes from full influence to zero influence

rather it means all people go from 100% influence to 99% influence

I think its better optics. I mean, saying "we should add more voices to the discussion" will probably breed less antagonism than "half of your voices need to be silenced".

definitely better optics, and a slightly modified situation, it's not affirmative action
