The individual that committed the assault here is basically crying out for help. He needs some time to undergo rehabilitation for this attitude since it clearly does not mesh with our society's values. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Sorry if my message wasn't clear. I typed it while driving. Essentially, both people involved are victims here. We should be helping both of them, not simply locking the attacker up.

The driver looked back and saw Tuimauga strike Horne in the head twice with the bat and watched him fall to the ground, the charges say.

At that point, the driver heard Tuimauga say, This is what happens when you bring black people around here, the charges say.

The Lyft driver drove away and parked two houses down, where he saw Tuimauga hit Horne three more times with the bat while he was lying unconscious on the ground, the charges say.

Part of the attack was captured by a neighbors video-surveillance camera, and the footage shows Tuimauga armed with the bat and Horne falling into the frame already unconscious, charging papers say.

While Horne was lying bloody in the front yard, Tuimauga used his cellphone to video-record the injured man while yelling racial slurs at him, the charges say.

According to the charges, Tuimauga repeatedly used the N-word.

I'm most certain too that he would have been using homophobic slurs too but there is nothing in the article mentioning it being a homophobic motivated attack like they are saying it being racially motivated.

Hes been in a coma for nearly two weeks, even when he does wake up he wont be the same. The attacker should be charged with attempted murder with a deadly weapon on top of the hate crime. Hes local so I might have time to go see him at the hospital and talk to his family, this story breaks my heart. Theres a good chance the attacker is a Trump voter emboldened by Trumps rhetoric too

I feel bad especially for the dude because he was coming off a good night and then this terrible shit happens. He works for the post office, which, while a good job, is hard work with rough hours. Goes out to have a good time, meets a girl, gets some booty, she even calls him a cab in the morning, and then he's unexpectedly beaten within an inch of his life. Terrible :/

I just don't understand why the guy would stand there and allow himself to be hit with a bat. Run away?
