We're searching mostly through carfax and autotrader, but I found a nice listing on Craigslist for an '08 Altima with 75k miles for like $5k (not really looking for anything nice or new. Just something that can run for the next 2-3 years while she saves up for something else). I've been in contact with this person and they don't have a report on the car but rattle off service dates and history. I asked for the VIN because I'm willing to run the report myself (and it's not smart to take it at face value), but they're being really hesitant on giving out the VIN. I think it's a college student selling that doesn't understand how this shit works, but this is an obvious red flag, right? Or do some people consider that info personal? I've even offered to meet them and look at the car and run a report there.
