Oh my bad forgot to add the r&b part

yeah such original music from Africa, I'm sure they didn't just ask a prominent rapper to make his next album their soundtrack

Are you now implying Africans don't sing. Slaves from Africa singing sorrowful and mournful songs through the night was a common thing when they were in chains.

You really under the impression African music is nothing but drums and tribal chanting and screaming at the sky while people dance around a fire? Maybe slaughter a few animals so the cries blend a lil better?

What, to you, is "African music" pray tell?

@Zikten, man, let me help -
Your first post in this topic is you saying that it's racist for them to go with rap.
Your next post is saying that rap is an American thing.
Your third post is you saying that rap is a divisive genre and niche.
Your fifth post is you saying that you've never met someone who didn't like rock or pop.
The rest of your posts are off-topic and just you complaining about feeling attacked, so we'll ignore them.

I'll just break it down tl;dr for ya
1. It's not racist. There's no definition of racism that this falls under. Please do explain why you think it's racist, I'm curious.
2. Rap is popular around the world, including in Africa. In addition, in the comics (so it may not be true to the movies) he went to America and the U.K. as a young adult, getting a PhD. at Oxford University. He undoubtedly encountered rap.
3. Rap is not divisive or niche. It was the most streamed genre of the year. I know you later respond to this in your fifth post, but that's just an opinion. Don't state a falsehood and then later say it's just your opinion. It's not. It was a false statement.
4. Sorta goes along with the above. Plenty of people like rock and pop, plenty of people don't. Like literally all music.

And what the hell is up with @weapon_d00d816 ? Why are your posts "standard white person with a persecution complex?"

It just feels convenient to make the first marvel movie about a black guy filled with a rap. but maybe I just don't get it. I apparently can't tell the complex subtleties of society because alot of times things I don't think are racist I am told are. and things I feel are racist, people say aren't

Did you feel it was convenient to give Thor a metal song about vikings?

I don't remember this. but it sounds right. alot of metal bands are into norse stuff. look it comes down to this. I was not aware there is much rap fanship in africa. and to me rap is an american genre. it screams America to me. it's hard for me to wrap my head around non americans that care about rap.

But you got the impression he listens to 80's music?

that was in reference to Guardians which somebody already mentioned except they called retro music. I don't think of it as retro because i was alive in the 80's. and yes, Star Lord listens to 80's music because he was a kid then too, and his mom gave him a mix tape.

He listens to 70s music.

A bit disappointed that RTJ isn't on there considering they've been using one of their song throughout the marketing.

what

thats been like the trailer song since day 1

wtf

What did you get confused by? I was saying that I'm a bit disappointed that an RTJ track isn't part of the soundtrack considering that Legends Has It has been used heavily in the marketing. Pretty straight forward.

I was hoping for Like A Panther to be in this movie for obvious reasons.

Speaking of Run the Jewels, what with one of their songs frequently being used to advertise the film:

XM3TAeG

It's clear that someone over at Marvel is a fan, so it's kind of silly to think they wouldn't include rap in their work.

How is ignorance? And I was right in my assumption, his mixtape was introduced in the movie and wasn't canon before that. Meaning the director of the film chose to create and include it. He made it a part of the plot. As far as canon was concerned, before the movie came out star lord never had this mixtape.

He's not wrong. Star Lord was introduced in Marvel Preview #4 in 1975 and was nothing like the Star Lord in GotG. The Marvel event Annihilation Conquest is the revival of the character that we see in GotG. So a 70's music soundtrack isn't out of the realm of possibility. Though Star Lord's origin and backstory in GotG is pretty much exclusive to the movie and not indicitive of his comic book origins. And even the GotG team in the movie isn't the Star Lord team in Annihilation Conquest. Which brought a lot of obscure Marvel characters back into relevancy.

I think Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith was put in charge who runs TDE(Top Dawg Entertainment). TDE is the label with Schoolboy Q, Kendrick, Ab Soul, Jay Rock, SZA, and probably more.

I want to listen to this soundtrack. Jay Rock was good on the song that I heard with Kendrick.

Which was a creative choice and not consistent with the canon of that character established thus far. You keep going on about this as if he was always abducted in the 80s and thus always had the mixtape. He didn't, the director chose to create that situation to insert that music into the soundtrack.
