It's on pretty much every modern platform too, being on Switch, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox One, Windows PC, iOS, and Android, so you have literally no excuse. If you know Japanese the original release is available on Super Nintendo, Wii, Wii U, and New 3DS too.

What would you say is the main draw of Romancing SaGa 2? Love classic RPGs like this, but have a pretty big backlog. What makes this one so much better than other RPGs?

I wouldn't say it's 'better' but it's certainly different from your everyday RPG. Generation-based, no reviving, can lose units permanently if they run out of life points, etc.

sounds kind of boring :/

That wasn't a very good description, tbh. I half-assed that

Idk it actually sounded pretty interesting to me. Definitely gonna consider playing it now. I'm used to permanent unit loss from Fire Emblem, and I like Generation-based games too. Do you recommend Romancing SaGa 1 or 3? I hear they are different than 2

Basic set-up is you play as a line of royalty in a budding empire, who have been the only ones to successfully fight back against the "Seven Heroes" told of in legend and the monsters under their command terrorizing the world. As you advance in the game or should your party fall, time passes and the crown is--with the abilities of your Emperor or Empress with it--handed down to the next chosen successor. After the prologue sets the stage, you can freely choose where to take your adventure, expanding your empire as you save territories across the world from the disasters plaguing them and hunting down the Seven Heroes behind it all, which brings more tax money to fund your crusade and new classes of NPC to add as your party members or choose for your next successor. For what was originally a SNES JRPG, there's a surprising amount of freedom and importance in choice. Some scenarios can play out almost completely differently based on how you approach them.

The game mechanics flow incredibly well when you get a grasp on them, on a level that in my experience very few RPGs get to. The one hurdle to the game is that many of its mechanics aren't clearly spelled out for you, so you need to experiment and really pay attention to NPC dialogue. One thing I ought to say up front is don't grind, it's okay to fight more enemies to get more skills if you find yourself walled after several tries at a boss, but do so while aiming for another goal or exploring unseen areas. Just grinding in place on weak enemies can put you in a bad position, since the strength of minor enemy encounters are decided by how many fights you've been in, and you get better rewards from stronger enemies. Don't be afraid to run from a fight if you get in over your head sometimes too, though don't do it too much, for the same reasons you shouldn't grind on weak enemies.

i usually pick monica as my main character in romancing saga 3 because her design is my favorite
katrina is good as well and since she can only be recruited by picking her as your main character making her the lead is the only way to get her

8 different main characters to choose from you pick the lead and a total of 31 characters to recruit into your party (you can only have 6 characters 5 will fight and one is sidelined)

I really need to play more of it. Loved the bit I've done and always been a fan of the SaGa series so I was hyped for this to get a wide release.
