It's Friday afternoon at 4:45PM. Foosball games ended around 4. Nothing is getting done. Nobody is working. A normal person goes home, right?

Instead of going home to his wife and kids, he's just sitting here doing nothing. Talking a little bit with his go-to coworker.

His boss only comes into work like once every two weeks. He's not here either. So staying here to look good to him isn't a factor.

If I'm in his position and happy with my life, why the fuck am I not out the door? Why is he making an extra effort to stay around the people he sees 40 hours a week and not his loving family with whom he chose to spend the rest of his life?

Seriously

Our office hours are 8-5. Except my boss, he thinks his hours are 7:30-5:30. No one is impressed.

That's not it, he doesn't show up until noon somedays just because he feels like it. He was here around 9 today though.

Yeah we're salaried, we get paid the same regardless of if we leave at 4 or 6 or whenever

He doesn't believe this because he does just sometimes show up whenever the fuck he wants

I get it. When you're the boss you set a good example. Come in to set up and when everyone's gone you turn off the lights

I mean there are digital timesheets (which is a whole 'nother level of unnecessary dumbness, but that's a company thing, not his idea), but there's no accountability for it, so he would've just clicked 9-5 and been out the door.

Work.

Both of which he could've been doing from 4-5 and then be out the door. Instead, he'd be out the door at 6 or later.

It's not really a problem, just weird. He BS's with his co-workers all the time, why doesn't he want to go home and see the ones he wants to spend the rest of his life with?

cameras?

I mean, if there are people whose sole jobs are to sit and watch the security cameras and make sure we don't leave at 4:58, then I don't want to work here.

It's a corporate office, not a warehouse. They only look at camera footage if there's a break-in or stolen equipment or something.

AverageCEgal posted...
tracking on the machine itself?

It's not a separate machine, I guess I was unclear about that. It's just a website you go to where you input your work hours. They don't care when you work, as long as it equals 40 hours in the system.

how far away does he live?

when I worked in Boston it was literally easier for me to leave work an hour later instead of sitting in 90-120 minutes of traffic depending on how many accidents there were

Close. Like 15 minutes or so, but no highway access necessary so rush hour isn't a factor.

huh well they could do a check on his hours vs his logging his time. Like if he logs at 5pm but it's 4:40 for examlpe on the browsing history

I just think he has a reason is all

But the thing is, it doesn't matter when you log the hours (as long as two weeks don't lapse). For example, I won't log this previous week's hours until this upcoming Monday. So if we pretend my boss does the same thing, then it doesn't matter when they were logged.

Nah it's not worth asking because he's kinda sarcastic but in a jackass way as opposed to a fun way - if I were to ask "it's 4pm and nothing's happening, why don't you go home?" he'd respond with "is it 5 yet? no? that's why." Thus implying that I'm someone who thinks skimping an hour is totally acceptable (which it is in the context of a friday afternoon where nothing's happening)
