Both are 4tb portable ones so no power supply.

The Seagate one has more reviews that mention it failing on them, but apparently is a tad faster than the wd one. Both are same price.

Seagate one:

Western digital one:

http://amzn.to/2EDPTuO

Both have good reviews but I see a lot of reviews mentioning failure on the Seagate one, with very few mentioning it on the wd one.

WD, they do not fail often, seagate has had a number of reviews saying how it failed after a relatively short amount of time.

Does WD still have that sleep problem that screwed up PS3s?

I recommend Toshiba.

Not that i can tell. They specifically tell you to go with the portable ones powered via USB over the desktop ones with power supplies

That was my issue. One review said 2 months and it failed lol

In my experience, the decision between those two brands pretty much comes down to which one you can find at a better price. But I'd pick those two over any other brand.

They were both same style, same capacity, and same price. So I went for the one without the failure rate reviews.

I don't blame you. I went to Amazon and read the Seagate reviews and WHEW. It was pretty scary and I wasn't even shopping for one

That was my thought. So many reviews saying it died within 6 months. One said within 2 months.

The western digital one didn't have shit like that.

Yeah, I think you made the right choice. The only drive I had fail on me was a Seagate one. It was the one infamous 3TB model, though. I find it funny that my first gen WD 1TB Green drive is still running and those were known to be bad too. I don't use it for anything besides cold storage of unimportant files these days, though.

If you got it off amazon could you pm me the URL, I'm trying to get one in the next month or two since I have to keep deleting games over and over to play others.

FFXV with the dlc took up more space than FFXIV, an mmo with dozens of patches and two expansions.

WD failure rate is actually slightly higher than Seagate right now.

For these particular types and capacities, the reviews are pointing to the opposite. May be different for internal ones or desktop ones. But I can't just ignore those reviews.

I bought a Seagate 2tb SSHD for my laptop, because the original 1tb wasn't enough space. Hearing about Seagate failing so often has me worried about losing all that content. Since I live in the boonies with no high speed internet access outside of data capped mobile plans, it'd take a lot of trips to Starbucks to redownload it.
