Aside from like Battlefield 1, Dark Souls 3 and MGS V: Phantom Pain, I can't recall any recent games that run well on my kind of bad computer. I tried out AC: origins recently and I get such awful fps, even on the lowest settings, to the point that it's unplayable.

Because PC hardware varies so you'll almost certainly not have a computer matching one of their test machines so inefficiencies naturally occur. There's also the issue of preferring to sell on consoles than PC for the new market not jaded by their business practices.

Yeah one of the downsides of pc gaming and ikea furniture is the pain in the ass it can be to get everything together. Plus it's nature of endlessly minute incremental upgrades means you'll never be satisfied. It's almost like some Greek tragedy of eternal punishment.

You want the best so you go pc, but then the bar immediately gets moved ahead just a hair, so you side step, and the bar whizzes past your feet and toy you end up obsessed with the idea of what it is but have lost sight of actually enjoying the game.

Yeah I agree but in my case the pros outweigh the cons. Since you all seem to have more expertise than me, is it time for me to upgrade? My GPU is an amd r9 2700, I think. It runs most games on low, at best. I think I have an i7 as a processor. I didn't build my computer so I'm not 100% sure on all this

Yes, your GPU is insufficient. If you play PC exclusive games then you may want to consider a better processor too as they tend to be more CPU intensive.

I checked my computer properties and my processor is: i7-4790k cpu @4.00 GHz. Is that processor not sufficient?

Also, if I were looking for a cheap-ish GPU that could run the latest games well, what kind of price range would I be looking at? Thanks

Dark Souls 3

If you can play DS3 well, then what exactly are the games you're having problems with? you gave one example of a bad running game, but gave three examples of games that run well, so it doesn't sound like you actually have a problem

If it's not an R9 Fury, throw it out 'cuz all other R9's are garbo tier

The 1050 Ti is the current "par" card for single monitor unfiltered, if you want more than that y'gotta get into the $500 club

Does the 1050 Ti run modern games on highest settings?

DS3 seems to be one of the better optimized games in recent years. Just about every other AAA game gets run on low settings if I want it to run at a decent framerate. For example AC origins, battlefield 1, overwatch, pubg, far cry 4 and nioh all suffer from heavy fps drops, some even on lowest settings.

Highest settings is meaningless, any game made of this generation can keep on scaling - there is no maximum.

DS3 was the game that "forced" me to upgrade my video card. I had Doom 2016 and DS3 at the same time. DS3 was almost unplayable, but Doom 2016 ran fantastically.

doom used some hard-core scaling.

I remember on console, while it was installing you could play it, and it's clear that not everything was installed, resolution was low, textures were shit, ect.

but you could play it, it was at normal fps, everything.

I thought that was crazy

Definitely not until the BTC bubble has fully burst. GPU prices have gone up 2-3x because of miners.

Having a bad machine aside, Ubisoft games are always crap for at least six months to a year.

Like most companies these days, they have no qa department, they release feces and let the end users do their beta testing.

Nvidia 1050TI 4GB version works well. I have the EVGA version. Impressed with the quality, big fan, good circuit board, doesn't need an external power PCI-E power cable to be plugged. Games have too much shit on the screen these days. Need the 4GB version instead of 2 for some titles that the devs were too lazy to optimize on lower spec machines. Such games like "No Man's Sky" needs ridiculous amounts of Hardware usage and refuses to work on older CPU's to compute huge amounts of time into creating randomly generated graphics on the screen without having them load in a shorter time frame. GPU/CPU helps that game. I just can't ran it on my C2D 7400, and the 1050TI is barely better than my R9 270 on the same motherboard/cpu as before. Nvidia is good though, the screen tearing is annoying but ATI/AMD overheats too much lately.

im pretty sure they make the games for consoles, then port them to the pc as a non priority thing. there are some games that are made for pc and then ported to console but it doesnt seem to happen as much.
