Blossom Tales always caught my eye. I've heard it's basically LttP, which got me attention, but I haven't heard much beyond that. Something to check out, for sure. What was the other one... Kamiko? I always almost impulse buy that because it's so cheap ($5).

Yes! I loved the original! I wasn't a big fan of XBX, but XB1 is an all-time favorite.

1 is maybe a top 5 game for me. I started playing 2 and for a while I wasnt sure I wanted to keep playing but I ended up over 200 hours played. There are some bad systems that end up competing with other bad systems (field skills and merc missions) and Id say most character introductions are a bit cringe worthy. Also no one wears pants for whatever reason.

If anyone has won in Into the Breach already, answer this question for me.
Is the final battle over after the bomb detonates, or is there another phase? I ended up losing on the final turn of that phase but I think I might have been able to win if I had let a unit die. But I wasn't sure about doing that because I thought there might be another phase to go, especially given what the same developers pulled in FTL.

I finished my replay of Yakuza 2 this morning. I wanted to replay it before Kiwami 2 comes out at some point in the future so I'd have a better idea how the original compares to the remake, and having just come off 0 and Kiwami in December/January I felt that now was as good a time as ever. It holds up pacing and content wise for the most part. There are still odd chapters in 2 where there's a clear break between two events but they don't have much to fill in. It's also underwritten when it comes to some major characters, like Daigo. If Kiwami is anything to go by, both of these will be addressed in Kiwami 2.

But man, this game is Yakuza at its best. Tight serialized crime story, compelling villains with understandable motivations, satisfying twists, ridiculous combat scenarios, a finale that just doesn't stop you from guessing. It's so good. I think Kiwami 2 is gonna do for the series what 0 did.

Now I'm in an awkward position where I have enough time before 6 comes out that I could play through 3 to get the last of the Kiryu-focused games out of the way, but that will leave me with just enough of a gap that I might want to tackle Yakuza 4 and/or 5 before 6.

Are the Kiwami games remakes, or prequels?

I've played all the Yakuza games available in English, and some of Ishin.

Yakuza 0 is a prequel set in the 80s starring Kiryu and Majima. Kiwami is a remake of Yakuza 1 in the 0 engine, with more and expanded cutscenes, additional substories that follow up on characters and plotlines from 0, and new mini-games. Yakuza Kiwami 2 is a remake of Yakuza 2 in the 6 engine with similar additions.

Yakuza 0 and Kiwami 1/2 sound like ones I need to check out. I didnt care for Y4, and after that, I think they dropped Kaz? You cant drop Kazhes the backbone of all of everything.

Kiryu is in 5 and 6. 6 is his last game, and for the first time since Yakuza 3 he'll be the sole protagonist.

I have some issues with Dark Souls 3's combat. It feels like they made the enemies overall faster without giving the player much compensation - all my weapons feel pretty much the same speed as DS1/2. Some enemies are straight out of Bloodborne - the red-eye knights might be the strongest non-boss enemy type in the entire series with how lightning quick and strong they are. This is compounded by them nerfing equip load. I find that the Souls games are the most fun when I have the fastest roll possible but they made lowering your equip load in DS3 feel awful because of how much you have to level Vitality. It's such a weak stat that you have to sink so many extra points into to have low equip load. End result is I'm left with crap armor, less HP, and worse offense than I would like to have, all in exchange for a roll which isn't even significantly better than the medium roll.

I'm not actually struggling much because daggers are busted in PvE, but the entire experience feels disjointed. I think I would only rank the combat above Dark Souls 2, and that's mostly because DS2 has big problems with disjointed hitboxes and attacks that track you through rolls. Might be better than Demon's Souls as well but I haven't played that in a while.

i don't exactly remember the fastest roll being any slower than in ds1, but i do remember the estus chugging animation in 3 being way faster than the rest of the series (except for bloodborne's blood vial injection animation obvs) and that you can actually move while chugging, which makes all the difference. also makes invasions last so much longer, whether you're the one invading or the one being invaded.

Finished Rime. That game was...fine. I found it pretty uneven. The beginning and end are very enjoyable, but the middle stretch has very slow pacing. Chapter 2 was especially bad as I didn't really like the mechanics in that one. I think it's worth giving a look, but free was definitely the right price for me.

yeah by video games I just mean the bombcast and beastcast at this point. I dropped 8-4 play years ago when it turned into them puffing themselves up endlessly, plus Mark left to go to whatever studio. I dropped Idle Thumbs when they all started working together and the dynamic didn't feel as fresh. Back in my Play I like in theory.. but the little but that I sampled didn't do it for me at all. I should give Retronauts another look sometime.
