You mean the 1% of the 1% who no longer have to pay the estate tax? The average american is getting almost nothing. That is a hard fact. I don't care what party you belong to, you can't argue with the numbers. This "middle class" tax bill is nothing more than a handout to wealthy political donors.

You might have a point if that tweet had been authored by a Democrat trying to disparage the tax cuts, rather than Paul Ryan - one of the most recognizable faces of the Republican Party.

You really think if he had a plethora of examples of the tax cut substantially helping out lower-income people that he wouldnt have used one of them instead of this? Like TC said, this guy is completely out of touch with the average American. His tweet is clearly patronizing and insults our intelligence.

why do you think the tax cuts will lead to cuts to social programs?

do you think they would have tried to cut social programs even if they had not cut taxes? if not, why not?

Paul Ryan said in a meeting with his donors that after tax cuts raised the deficit they could use that as a reason to cut social programs.

yes, I know that this is the argument that they will make

so do you think they would not try to cut social programs if they hadn't raised taxes? they were already trying to before they passed a tax cut, actually! that is what the ACA repeal was -- is there really a reason to think that the public is going to care less about benefit cuts now than they did then just because the deficit will increase over a decade long span? that is how elected republicans think, I am aware, but it is weird to see people repeat it so uncritically when there isn't any evidence this is actually how things progress politically (at least, I don't think so)

Look at what I posted. The rich are getting double the percentage that the poor get. How is that a middle class tax cut? What pisses me off about the whole thing is how they have been deceiving the public. They should just call it what it is: a handout to the political donors.

I really don't understand why people think this is some kind of damning response.

I think it is pretty obvious that most people don't think the rich should have their taxes cut period! So saying that they will save a lot more (it's actually going to be more in both relative and absolute terms, that chart Mal_Fet posted is incredibly incomplete and doesn't take into account changes in tax credits or really do anything useful, it doesn't even price in the standard deduction etc) because they make a lot more kind of misses the point imo

If you include deductions then you would save MORE money than what's shown on the chart

Which still flies completely in the face of the claim that the middle class didn't get a big tax cut.

the tax bill didn't expand deductions overall, it shrank them
your purpose in posting it was to show that the bill skewed towards the middle class, but that's not true if you look at the whole tax package and not just a naive envelope calculation of income tax rates based on brackets

I mean it largely depends on your household composition and where you live how big your tax cut is going to be. Because what you posted is useless and not informative.
