the first time I met with someone from HR. he explained what was going on and how I was going to be terminated. he let me say my side of the story, but it didn't matter. he packed up my stuff, took my badge an walked me out of the building

the second time a hot-headed manager came out of his office, told me to hangup with the customer I was speaking with, and fired me in front of everyone on the production floor. He said "you blew one hell of an opportunity". This time I packed up my stuff, and a couple people walked me out of he building

I was laid off because the company was going bankrupt. Nothing I did wrong, it was just my turn. Everyone got laid off eventually.

was laid off last summer from a company that was having severe financial struggles (a newspaper of course) so it made sense and i wasn't super bummed but it was still a significant blow to the confidence.

It was a real estate job where we cold called people trying to get homeowners to sell their homes. I had training for a week, failed the exam at the end, but they still put me on the phones despite the failure.

The phones were dreadful. The call volume was back to back, every customer either didn't answer or threatened to call the FTC on me. It was draining me emotionally, I was ready to explode. A few times I said "I hate my job" under my breath. My manager overheard me, so he immediately reported it to his manager, and I was gone in less than 2 minutes.

When they walked me out the entrance, the door got stuck, so they had to call maintenance. We just sat there and waited for them to fix it. Awkward.

Never been fired

Been laid off as part of a departmental cut (i.e. they gutted procurement and gave those tasks to engineering because it was so slow)

Haven't been fired, but I've had one job that had changed owners about a year after I joined, went shitty under the new management, and was looking for a reason to fire me, so I resigned.

I'm not sure what the exact amount, was it was nearly a decade ago now.
But it was 3 weeks pay.

Severance here is 3 weeks of pay once you work for 3 months then it's an extra week for every year, maximum 8 weeks or so. Something like that anyways.

I've only been laid off a couple of times due to shortage of work or I really didn't like a job so I only showed up a day or so.

I've never been fired, but I did have one job that I was pretty much checked out from and the owner just asked me "So, when's your last day going to be?"

I have only been laid off although they could be considered firings. I assume they decided to lay me off to avoid having to come up with a justification or paper trail so they just gave notice / pay in lieu of notice.

Yup. That is exactly what happened. They caught me saying I hate my job.

First time I was fired because I was a part of the "old guard." My manager retired and the new manager was power tripping and wanted employees who were only loyal to her even though no one gave a fuck as long as we collected checks.

Second time was because I got a third strike for being late. I felt bad for my boss, who was an upstanding guy, since he was then short staffed for the day.

A co-worker accused me of sexual harassment. I got a little too comfortable with my friends at work and said a few jokes that were taken the wrong way. When she reported it to HR, she exaggerated the story a lot. For an example, some jokes involved a group of people including myself, but she said I acted alone. She also had a lot more friends at the job than I did, so she was able to get them to support her accusations.

this was the closest i came but i ended up finding a new job and leaving like a month before they closed. most of the other people i work with were laid off for months before they found a job.

The only time I was ever "fired" was when I was doing sound on a film shoot because my friend was doing camera work. My friend got fired because some of his gear wasn't up for the task, so I just lost my job by attachment.

I was one of 3 people let go that day. They waited until end of day to tell me. Walked me into the conference room, told me that I had not improved enough with issues they had brought up prior, and told me to get my stuff. Seems standard
