Nah this is just going to be weeby bs
But I for some reason decided to try it and holy shit
What a game
I think I mostly love how the music really enhances the game in a way that I've never experienced and likely never will again

Is souls-tier combat similar to the Witcher, with bombs and stuff like that?

It's actually nothing like the Witcher.

Souls combat is kind of its own thing that has no outside comparisons (except games made after the originals that emulate it, like Nioh).

Sorta like how Metroid, while having elements of existing games, is distinctly Metroid with so many specific details that people basically just made it into its own sub-genre of game, maybe sharing some spotlight with Castlevania.

Anyhoo, Nier's a a good'n, but it's pretty much incapable of being in the running for "best ever" what with its flaws, plus the fact the gameplay itself is so all over the place that will make it a difficult experience for most people to fully even enjoy.

But one glaring universal problem the game had was difficulty balance. It is one of the worst games at difficulty balance I have ever played. Some attacks/enemies just do nonsensically high damage, normal is really too easy unless you plan to do no side stuff nor even make the slightest effort to use plug-in chips intelligently, while hard greatly amplifies the nonsensical damage spikes and prevents lock on which is dumb, it's a core function of third person action games at this point. And even on hard it gets way too simple eventually if you do side stuff because the level gaining balance is also out of whack where you can easily end up 20+ levels ahead of everything without ever farming (though still able to be one-shot nonsensically by some things even with heavy investment in defensive chips).

The game also really overdoes the tedious grinding requirements for some things (pod upgrades spring to mind) which are way too taxing to do for what you get. There's also lacking polish (removing and replacing chips needlessly requires you exit and click optimize every time to make the most use of space, at least one effect is completely broken and has no actual effect (endurance up) along with very poor balancing of pod programs since a lot of them just are kind of useless and dumb. Then there's the technical glitches that even after all this time and patching still can crop up, like animation glitches and just straight up game crashes which happened to me multiple times including near the end of a very long sequence I had to redo. There's also some really poorly handled side quests, like the one that you have to fully progress a main quest to a nearing climatic event to do, and if you go forward with the main quest staring you right in the face with the narrative greatly emphasising you need to do this right now, it's a point of no return that kills almost all quest progress, necessitating you drop the story and backtrack all the way back to address it right away if you want to do that side quest. It's very poorly communicated. And then that quest in the desert that literally boils down to just "hold L1 and wander around aimlessly for 30 minutes until you find 3 needles in haystacks, then good luck finding the 4th because it's put somewhere you already went but it wasn't there at the time so odds are you wont' think to check back there because it makes 0 sense to"

There is also something to be said for the fact they clearly tried to make the melee combat fun and feel good, but then for roughly half the game you can't really make full use of it as you're stuck playing as someone who sucks at it, and your consolation prize is playing repetitive bullet hell minigames which you know, if you like that, good for you. But many won't. And it's so weirdly overpowered that it just detracts from the combat as a whole.
