Yup that's right, now "original" or "reproduction" is a category.

For anyone not familiar, reproduction is synonymous with counterfeit, fake, bootleg. illegal, profits made without any royalties being paid to the creators of the IP, and deceptive to people who want legitimate *vintage* items, not something made by some guy in his basement in 2018, trying to make an easy buck.

That's fantastic news. Now people can easily replace their lost cases or manuals.

again, theyre not. they might say repro in the listing, but not on the cartridge. it doesnt stop someone from buying it and then selling it on their own for $30-50+ to someone unsuspecting

the manuals themselves dont say so. regarding carts- impossible to know until you open the cart and look at the board, which is not possible if you're buying off eBay and even in person, most people dont have a tri tip screwdriver

They're doing that without Ebay, already. this is to help people trying to buy cases. many people go to Ebay and this is an attempt to help those people not get scammed. If someone buys them with the intent to scam others elsewhere that isn't Ebay's fault.

Man, get over it. Pawn Shops that specialize in old games sell repro carts and the like out the ass. This is not a new concept.

by the way I work at a place that sells old games, we tell people to get the fuck out of our store when they try and sell us this crap.

apples to oranges. these manuals aren't the same thing. they were made by someone else, different material, different ink, different time period, etc.

I wonder whose main this is.

if it's sanctioned by the IP holders, I'm okay with it. it's shady to profit off someone else's work for one thing, but if they have permission from the rights holder and there's a copyright date on it, sure go ahead. good question.

They've been openly selling reproduction copies of shit on eBay for some time now. It makes it more difficult as a collector, because you have to not only weigh the quality of the product, but also factor in the price, the buyer, the location, as well as hope that they are being up and up about whether it's a real copy, or if they're just snowing you. Fortunately, the prolific reproduction sellers generally have broken English, and come from places like China and Tasmania.

these days if you are buying a Hagane or Terranigma, you're better off buying from a reputated member on a game collector site or buying it in person. sometimes a seller can show you the board but its not always the case

It used to be that we shouldn't buy pre-owned games because developers don't get the money

Now we shouldn't buy reproduction games (or cases or manuals) because collectors and scalpers won't get the money

I honestly don't see the intrinsic difference between playing an emulated game and buying a reproduction copy of a game. The only difference is you're giving somebody a lot of money so you can play it on the official hardware.

That has generally been the case for the rare games, though; you buy from reputed sellers. I can understand if somebody wants to buy a reproduction cart of a video game that wasn't released in your geographical area, especially Terranigma. As far as I'm aware, reproduction carts of that game are built using a translated Japanese ROM, which has a much higher refresh rate than the PAL versions. It would make for a smoother gaming experience.

terranigma was a bad example then, although I still believe the whole thing of "its okay because theyre not in the same country" thing is pretty bogus.
