I think even though it might not be a good movie it will help set a trend in that colored superheroes can be successful on the big screen and we might get a miles morales Spider-Man finally

Lol this topic went exactly the way I expected

It will be a good movie but it will never be as good as the hyped people want it to be. It's gonna be an ok film but for years people will claim it was a modern classic worthy of an oscar. They have to believe the movie is perfect for political reasons. I like Tchalla but he's gonna get so overhyped in coming years. They will give him a bigger role in Infinity War 2 . They will rush out Black Panther 2. They will do an arc in the comics where he takes over as leader of the Avengers or maybe the Avengers do something against the world and only Tchalla can stop them. It will be a big event called Wakanda vs Avengers. At the end, Cap, Tony and Thor go to prison.

I'm sure it's as good as any other Marvel movie, but it being almost an entirely black cast is going to cause suspicion that it's getting bonus points because that makes it more progressive or something.

They are calling it diverse even though it's 99% black cast. To some people diverse just means not white

That's because all of those movies have hundreds of reviews. I don't think BP even gotten past 100 reviews yet, so a lot more are still coming in. By the time all of the reviews come in for it, I'm pretty sure it'll end up somewhere around the low 90% or the high 80s.
That's usually how these things go.
I'm personally hoping that it can land on a 95%. Comic book movies can't seem to hit that or beyond.

But I figure they may mean a primarily black superhero movie is a splash of diversity in a genre headed almost entirely by white men. The movie it self doesn't have a diverse cast, but it diversified the MCU series and the genre as a whole.

The only thing an RT rating means is the percentage of reviewers who gave it a positive review.

100% doesn't mean it's the greatest superhero movie ever. It means it's the most universally liked by critics.

The Dark Knight has a higher average rating for example. Despite having 93% positive reviews. Reviewers overall gave it a higher score.

tbf, Thor: Ragnarok had a 100% score on RT for a bit, and eventually dropped down to 92

it doesn't mean that there's a push for positive reviews; it could also just mean that it's that good.

That isn't how RT works.

As I recall, the way Rotten Tomatoes works is it only counts whether the review was positive or negative. It won't differentiate between, say, a 4 or 5 star movie review because they're both positive and any positive review counts as Fresh. Likewise, any negative review counts as Rotten, regardless of being a 2 or 1 star.

That's how I recall the Matt Atchity explain it way back when he would show up on the Adam Carolla Show to play the Rotten Tomatoes Game.

The closest RT have is the average. Right under the score is the average, the average number of review score out of ten that it most received.

Say our hypothetical movie got a 6 across the board. The average would be 6/10 with a 100% since all it's reviews are positive.

If people really want to look at reviews to get an idea of the quality of something from critics, that's actually what they want to look at.
