you can watch the video (which is in the source article) if you don't believe the FBI director said what the article claims. just because the publication has a slant does not mean their claims are false. watch the video and decide for yourself.

The appointments require a vote in the Senate and IIRC the heads can be impeached if necessary

Also, they're limited to a 10 year term

The idea is that someone can cajole and brown-nose in the FBI, build a base of support, and then never leave their position (a la J. Edgar Hoover), and making the position an appointment, with a term limit, and senate oversight helps cut down on that

However, when the senate abandons its oversight responsibilities, as the current senate has, that's a rather dangerous thing

again, the credibility or bias of the DNC isn't really relevant to this topic. either you believe the FBI director or you don't, but the DNC should not factor into that decision.

As I said, the senate vets and votes on the candidate to confirm them to the office.

It's extremely atypical for a President to get to fire an FBI Director, it's also not usual that the President appoints someone who gets significant overlap with them.
