A North Carolina mother was sentenced to seven days in jail after she baptized her daughter.

The punishment comes after mother Kendra Stocks and father Paul Schaaf fought a custody battle over their child, reports WSOC-TV.

A court granted Schaaf, a practicing Catholic, the final authority on all legal custody decisions, including those concerning religion. The court warned both parents they would face jail time if found in contempt.

The next day, Schaaf found out through Facebook that Stocks had baptized their daughter anyway.

"The mother has acted selfishly by depriving the father of the ability to be present at an event that was extraordinarily important to him," court documents stated.

ews of the judge's sentence has since sparked controversy

"You got to be joking," wrote one person "These are the judges that we have before us? this world is so screwed. these judges act like they are the law. they don't uphold the law, they abuse their power. This sickens me."

"[He] is violating right to religion laws, violating women rights laws, wrongful prosecution laws, false imprisonment laws, and false arrest laws," commented one person on Facebook. "It's about him power tripping on a woman and putting her in her place," they added. It has nothing to with baptism in which its out of the Judicial Systems Jurisdiction. It should have been thrown out of court."

It's just one of the many times in recent weeks a judge's ruling in a religion-related case has provoked controversy. On Feb. 5, a California judge ruled a baker was legally within her rights when she refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex marriage,

"A wedding cake is not just a cake in a Free Speech analysis," wrote Superior Court Judge David R. Lampe. "It is an artistic expression by the person making it that is to be used traditionally as a centerpiece in the celebration of a marriage. There could not be a greater form of expressive conduct."

The case captured national attention after Eileen and Mireya Rodriquez-Del Rio filed a complaint after Tastries bakery owner Cathy Miller refused to make their cake.

"Miller is a practicing Christian and considers herself a woman of deep faith," the opinion said, adding that she believes same-sex marriages "violate a Biblical command that marriage is only between a man and a woman."

Because Bart got headlice and had to get all of his clothes burned (and thus, wear a potato sack), and Lisa got bullied out of her shoes and got hit in the back of her head by a ball and ended up biting her tongue. Skinner took all of this as there being a problem at the Simpson household and CPS came and took them away to live in a foster home temporarily, which was the Flanders'.

So if she fed her daughter pork one day in your opinion is that illegal and should she be arrested for making decisions concerning religion?

And he was never seen again.

It concerns religion.

You're pretending not to understand why this is controversial.

It's like you're attempting to the least logical statements that you possible can in weak attempts to bait people into questioning your intelligence just so you can mark them.

Unusual but it's the law.

I'm more concerned about a child being forced to partake in an occultic ritual that signifies her membership in a cult, but whatever.

Because its not against the catholic faith to eat pork. Since the ruling is on issues involving religion, and both parents were catholic, pork would only be an issue if they were muslims because it would be a violation of their faith.

The long and the short of it is that the ruling was clear and the woman spited the husband by baptizing the daughter so that the husband couldn't be there. That's contempt of court.

Don't violate court orders.

And if you think that a court order's unfair or even unconstitutional, try to legally fight it and don't expect to get off if you break it just because.
