A recruitment consultant has been fired for telling a lorry driver that he wouldnt be given a job interview because he is British. Michael Fowler, 39, applied for the job eight miles away from his home in Salisbury, Witlshire.

However, he received an email from Bulgarian recruitment consultant Plamena Ivanova saying Our positions exclude British candidates. Blu Global said that Ms Ivanova has now lost her job as a result of the email in which she said: Hi Michael. Are you British because our positions exclude British candidates?.

The company said it was completely shocked at what had happened. Recruitment consultant fired for telling lorry driver no Brits allowed. Michael, who has been a driver for 12 years and had applied for the position on job-site Indeed, said it was advertised for drivers to live and work in the EU.

The ad specified that applicants must be EU citizens and have a good level of English. I was just gobsmacked, he said. I thought I must have read the job advert wrong, but I hadnt.

A spokesperson for Blu Global confirmed Ms Ivanoa no longer worked for the company and said: We refute any allegations that we, as a business, discriminate in any way against our UK-based applicants.

No candidate is denied a chance of employment based on their nationality, age, race, gender or sexual orientation. We can confirm that we continuously place candidates of European and British nationality with all of our past and present clients as we advertise for, and recruit, candidates both in the UK and across mainland Europe.

Any deviation from this policy, by any member of staff or any independent person or organisation acting under or using the Blu Global brand, is not supported in any way by the company.

We will fully investigate this allegation.

Mr Fowler added: I work for agencies all the time. I guess I was shocked because Ive been doing this job for 12 years and you get drivers from everywhere. Ive never really experienced anything like this before, everyone works together normally.

More or less any point except the late 1990s to be honest.

The story you posted is not a representation of how things are at the moment. It's anecdotal, as you well know.

Oh come on

You're saying Europe and the UK were more tense in the 1970s when the UK JOINED the EU?

I'm saying they're not tense at all now, so that's a meaningless statement.

Brexit?

The rest of Europe is well aware that Brexit passed because of a combination of Cameron's ineptitude, council estate dwellers, and people that are not long for this world.

No. But allowing the vote while having an extremely arrogant attitude about winning is. He only let the vote go ahead as he assumed leave would win. He also ran an extremely poor campaign and did nothing to combat the flat out lies of the Brexit campaign.

It was a massive own goal that should never have happened, but did directly as a consequence of Camerons actions (or lack of)
