So my coworker and I are near BWI this weekend for work and we wanted to go into DC on Sunday to spend the day.

Our original plan was to take the train into the city from BWI, but it looks like the last return train is at 7:00 and we might want to stay later, so I was considering driving in.

My two questions are:
How bad would traffic be driving in on a Sunday?
How feesible would it be to get parking at a reasonable (or free) price?

Thanks.

Both far more reasonable on the weekend than a weekday, and in winter rather than spring or summer. Maybe a little extra traffic because of the holiday, but it should be fine.

Don't quote me on this, but I think you can get all day parking in a garage for 10 or so bucks on the weekend. Just gotta be aware of their closing times.

Google should have more info

Traffic wont be as near as it is Monday through Friday. Parking in dc is almost all pay to park or garages etc. be careful going through the navy yard, and avoid anacostia if possible.

I don't know about parking in downtown DC because I was never bold enough to try it, but if you were to drive to downtown Silver Spring (which is right at the NE edge of the DC/Maryland border, so about 10 miles from the White House), I know for sure the garages there are free on the weekend and it would be a <5 min walk to the metro stop where you could ride into DC and back. So I'm assuming, but don't know for sure, that it would be the same for other DC suburbs.

Metro also stops running at 12am.

I rarely drive into the city so I'm not too sure of the parameters. Ive parked on some streets for free at night on the weekends when I did. There's plenty of garages of varying prices. If you go that route, best bet would be to shop around online at parking panda or something similar.

Traffic shouldn't be very bad which is the main thing.
