I guess it might also depend on how people feel about the story - if there's a consensus that it's, at least, halfway decent, then I'll give it a shot

Just finished my first match.

The game is actually fun, but the whole time I was thinking "Couldn't this have just been Diamond Dogs/Outer Heaven/Big Boss mercenaries doing those contract ops?"

Like, I think it'd be *more* fun if it wasn't Zombies and such and you were just literally protecting assets or people from insurgents/rebels/tyrants/whatever.

I mean, it's really kind of getting to me the more I think about it.

I feel like having to barricade an African embassy or palace from an encroaching group of rebels or rioters would be a lot cooler than these weird zombies. It isn't even like the gameplay would be that different, you'd still have a mass amount of enemies with melee weapons, then you'd have a few who have ranged capabilities and then also a few bomber types. But I guess that'd make people feel too uncomfortable?

Or even the flip side, you're working for the insurgency and need to help them penetrate the compound.

Something like that would represent that Big Boss Mercenary style and MGS as a whole more than what we've got, even if Phantom Pain was super ridiculous with it's tech and such.

Yeah the very loose connection to the Metal Gear universe makes it feel like a very cheap cash grab.

I just played with a dude like an hour ago who had a real emotional response to the game.

Like every 5 seconds, he would just ask how to do something super basic, be told how, then just go "this is so bad" over and over and over

at the end of the match, he just went like "omg, I was supposed to craft? This is crafting zombie survival game!? Like we needed another one of these! OMG this is so bad!"

then it sounded like he was sobbing until we were sent back to the main menu.

It was some of the funniest stuff ever, I really hope he was a youtuber recording it.
