Great monster-of-the-week episodes but around season 4 (iIrc) the mythology episodes becomes really convoluted and kinda hard to follow if you don't pay attention like I did and had to re-watch a bunch of episodes.

This is also true. It doesn't help that they were clearly making stuff up as they went along.

I didn't even finish the show. I think the last one I saw was the video game episode in season seven.

I watched the first 3 seasons or so a few years back when I was working a night shift in manufacturing. There's a little 90s cheese to it but besides that, most of what I saw was pretty good. Don't give up after only an episode.

Also, I think there are guides that people generally agree on which ones you can skip

The 1998 movie takes place between seasons five and six so if you are getting into the story you should watch it then.

Once you get to the end of the original run, just stop. The 2010s renewal seasons are terrible.

It's filmed in the style of COPS, like first person, but it's Mulder and Scully are chasing a werewolf in this neighborhood? Good times were had by all

Wasn't a werewolf tho. It was a shapeshifting demon thing that turned into whatever the target was most afraid of. One person was afraid of a werewolf, but then it turned into Freddy Kreuger and some other shit.

Not entirely true. Season 10 isn't anything special aside from one episode that is great. But the current season is actually really good.

And yeah, definitely watch that movie in between season 5 and 6. It's pretty important. There's also a second movie that takes place after Season 9 ends, but that's not important and also not very good.
