Want to go for my Bachelor's sometime soon. I don't own a house, so I'll have to rent an apartment somewhere near.

There's nothing wrong with pursing a higher degree, I think it's the social aspect that gets me. How is life living near campus? Usually older people have a home and are married with kids. Me on the other hand, I'll be 28 when I start. I'm single and have no friends. Though I still look young. I still haven't grown out of my shyness faze yet either, so the transition will be tough.

I'm going to Illinois State if anyone is curious.

Better late than never. I had a guy in late 40s as my classmate for his first degree and he's now running a successful consultation business.

Go for it

Literally nobody will care or judge you in terms of taking classes.

If you're worried about the social aspect, I feel like your personality will matter a lot more than your age. 28 is still young, you'll be fine.

As someone in their mid 20s getting my professional degree I notice that undergrad aged girls always seem instantly more interested when they meet a guy several years older than them at school. I stick to the law school 90% of the time so I don't interact with 18-21-year-olds that often but I am around the younger crowd when I'm working out at the school gym that is shared by both undergrad and post grad people.

There are going to be a lot of guys actually around your age in undergrad. But most of them are going to be vets. Go hang out at local bars. The upperclassmen hang out there because house/dorm parties are usually filled with underclassmen and you'd stick out like a Blacksheep in a social setting like that.

My best bud from college was in his later 20s/early 30s when we were still attending. No one cares, just be cool.

Thanks. You all make me feel a bit better. I think it's bout time I leave home, seeing as I'm 27. Younger siblings are gone.

I'm currently hitting the gym. If I do attend in August I have 6 months to tone up. Might as well look the best I can be if I'm gonna be single.

College girls are going to pretend to be nice to you, and then unfriend you after the semester. That's just how they are.

this is pretty boilerplate. don't worry about it. when i was in college there were 40 -60 year olds in some of my classes coming back because they wanted a career change or their company propositioned them for a promotion under the requirement of obtaining a ba or bs.

late 20s is nothing

Depending on how you look you have a solid chance as passing for traditional college age anyway. So keep that in mind. Youre just gonna be self conscious but its a small difference. The main thing is if you live off or on campus. Off means that if you want friends youre gonna have to be active.

I was in college from age 25 to 29.

I was/am a bit socially awkward. I had an alright time in college, made some friends, got a high GPA, but I do wish I had gotten out and partied a bit more while I was there. You have to put yourself out there. I know it sounds lame but join some clubs or something.

When I was in college I hung out on campus a lot in an area that was specifically for Computer Science students on campus (went to CU boulder so it was a very large program). I made friends there including group mates from projects but when I left school I would basically just head straight back to my apartment and go into a comfort zone. I went out drinking a few times with friends but it was a once or twice a semester thing. I drove back home a lot of weekends which didn't help much for making me a social animal.

I had a good time in college and I got a good degree but I do feel like I missed out on some of the social elements.

I'm not talking classes. Of course there's nothing wrong with taking classes later in life.

I'm talking the social aspect. I'll be 28, single, and no friends. Most people my age have family, so they don't care about the social part of college.

I think I'll be fine though.

I'm technically a college student again. I'm going for a welding certification. Part shop time, part classroom time. Talking to college girls again is funny because they're very interested when they hear I have a career and a house, but not so much when they hear I also have a wife.
