Do you think gun owners should be required to train and take a test to get the required license to own a gun?

Also maybe carry insurance in case they accidentally injure themselves or others?

Many, many people. Yes.

They should be required to do all that if they wish to carry in public, which is no different than not being required to have a license to buy or own a car but needed to legally drive it on public roads.

Why is this always the weak argument? Automobile laws have drastically diminished the number of car related deaths.

I'm not against it. But if I feel like if we need to be licensed to carry weapons a lot of the restrictions already in place need to be removed

I agree with both of these sentiments.

Yes. Back in high school, a lot of people didn't drive to school because they didn't have a license. You're joking right?

Let me ask you this, then; if the licensing was made optional, do you think that there would be more unlicensed cars purchased and more unlicensed drivers on the road?

I'll just give my own hypotheticals.

Say we go through training, testing, and checks, and since cars are being used as the analogy, these renewals would be every 2-3 years under default circumstances. This would also likely mean an ID, probably federal since that's the background check every FFL-used firearm purchase is checked against. This license should also be able to be revoked for various reasons.

What that should get is a 99% eliminated check for those who have this license, which would amount to scanning a barcode on the license itself to make sure it's valid. If this also happens, interstate purchasing should also be a thing, and equally as painless for these licensed individuals.

Also on the table for this federal license and training should be removal of California-compliant style laws and firearms. Default all firearms laws to a single standard, which I would say use ATF rules.

And since these licenses would also come with an extensive background check at testing and renewal stages, would short-barrel rifles, suppressors, and select-fire without full-auto also be on the table?
