Great, underrated movie, doesn't deserve the hate it gets. Feel the same way about Iron Man 3 too. Most of the problems I hear from people are small nitpicks, or they just don't bother saying anything at all and simply say it's bad.

They aren't super amazing mind blowing films, but they are very entertaining and I always enjoy rewatching them whenever I do my traditional rewatch of the whole MCU in preparation for an Avengers film.

I get what he means. As in like, he acknowledges that the first film is objectively better, but he personally likes the second more.

I feel the same way about personally liking Guardians as my favorite MCU film, but I think Winter Soldier is the MCU's best film.

3 has problems too but I think it gets a bit too much hate. I know some people were bothered by it being an Iron Man movie without much Iron Man... But I didn't mind it, I enjoyed the arc and felt like it had a place in the MCU. The struggle Tony was having with feeling like he couldn't be a hero without the suit and that he couldn't live without it while also simultaneously wanting to give it up and be done with it after The Avengers.
Him going back to just relying on thinking fast and basically MacGyver-ing his way along without the suit and realizing that the suit isn't what makes him who he is. She it's cheesy, been done before, and Shane Black definitely A. Wasn't at the top of his game B. Marvel was being too strict and forcing him to stay too much within a specific box because of how meticulously they're planning the MCU or more likely C. A combination of both.

2 was just a massive bore and extremely forgettable to me. Honestly I need to watch it again.

The Justin Hammer stuff was the only redeeming parts of the movie. Well, I guess it was also the last time Scar Jo was actually hot so there is that.

Iron Man 3 was really annoying to me because the entire second movie is based on the idea that his arc reactor is killing him. And then IM3 has him casually remove it at the end.

Also, this movie and Winter Soldier (maybe Civil War too I guess, but to a less extent) are the only movies in which Scar Jo isn't insufferable as Black Widow. My god is she terrible in that role in all the other films, a super cheesy and ham-fisted, terrible performance that is so cringe inducing. It's especially bad in the Avengers films, especially AoU, her quips in those movies truly make her a terrible joke of a character and most of the times I'm rolling my eyes when she's on screen in those movies.

She's basically a completely different character in IM2 than in any of the other MCU films (considering she's undercover in most of it, it makes sense) which works pretty well, nothing too amazing but she doesn't bring down the quality of the film at all like she does in all the other non Winter Soldier/Civil War movies.

However, Winter Soldier is a whole other story, she's amazing in that and such a clear standout character in that movie. I wish her character was so well written and well portrayed in all the other MCU films like she was in Winter Soldier. Hoping for this level of writing and portrayal in Infinity War.

I've been rewatching the MCU films slowly over the last couple months to try to get them all in before Infinity War... a lot of them I haven't seen since theaters or maybe right after they came out on DVD/bluray.

IM2 was actually somewhat better than I remember, although still probably the weakest in the series.

I've always liked IM3, though. No, not the best MCU film by any means, but its perfectly okay.
